Anyone here use Sonlight? How do you get it all done if you have multiple children in different cores?
Yikes! Christine |

Not yet, but we will begin next year. Fortunately, my boys are close enough that we will not have the issue of teaching multiple cores.
I know that this has been an issue with other friends, and they have ended up using something else. (Tapestry of Grace/Weaver/AlphaOmega) -Leigh, mom to 2 boys, ages 3 and 2 |

I'm a Sonlighter! We've been doing Core K for since Mid July and are loving it!!! I have 2 children 17 months apart and then a straggler 5 years younger. Eventually I'll be doing 2 cores, but for now only one. God is good, too, because when the youngest starts, his cores will coincide with the older ones'. (World history in Core 1 and core 6)

Starrmom,
Do you find the reading cumbersome? Blessings, Christine |

Christine,
No, on most days, the reading is not cumbersome. Of course, we're only doing Core K right now, but it's going well. We just started a book with a more difficult subject matter (The Family Under the Bridge) and that one is going kind of slow. I'm not hearing the usual, "One more chapter, pleeeeaaaase!" It's also hard sometimes when the baby is at my feet wanting my attention. Overall, I love the curriculum! Jamie ps I saw some info about your book The Challenging Child. I need to get my hands on a copy of that. Love my 5yo ds, but..... |

Hi Jamie,
Glad to hear SL is working so well. What are your challenges? I'd be happy to chat privately if you'd like. Blessings, Christine |

This is our second year of Sonlight. I have two children, only one year apart, who are at home (and two in public jr. high). The reason I chose Sonlight this year (history, Bible, Science, and Reading) was basically for ease of use, the great literature, and accountability. I find that having a schedule keeps me more consistent with our schooling. I need to follow some sort of plan, and this works pretty well for us. I particularly like my second grader's reading and writing programs. They are not ultra-time consuming, but they are very good. In fact, if I ever go back to teaching professionally, I will use some of the writing ideas (and a LOT of the literature) with my students.
That being said (ie, it works for me), my sons like all the things we're learning, and both are eager to sit down and see what great stuff we get to read each day. I do find that I have trouble fitting in the Read-Aloud selections, but I just make sure I take along the book when we have to go to the dr. or someplace where a wait is typical. We catch up while we wait. So far, I am fairly pleased. Is it the perfect program? Nope. However, since I committed to use the Sonlight program, I spend less time worrying about what curriculum is best and more time with my children, teaching and learning. That's great! |

Hi cg,
Amen to that - more time learning and less time worrying! Christine |
