as a mom, i'm not really crazy about spending a lot of $ on a dated t-shirt that my son will quickly grow out of. as a vbs director, i want everyone to catch the spirit by having a theme t-shirt, at a reasonable price. a company called "appealing apparel" solves both problems. we've bought our vbs shirts from them for the past 3 years and have been very pleased. they are identical to the shirts at lifeway, but you can add your church name and a quote or motto! and the prices are great! this year i even wrote our budget to offset the cost of the shirts so that every child (and adult) can have one for only $5! awesome! their website is appealingapparel.com. check them out for next year!
what we've done in previous years vbs's is just buy tshirts a couple sizes bigger (my 4 year old has the same size as her 7 year old brother) that way when they make the tshirt and for the first year they have a new nightshirt then when it starts to fit them better they can wear it as a regular shirt. i have 3 kids and have gotten an average 2 to 3 years out of a vbs decorated shirt. I also buy the 6pk of tshirts from like walmart or kmart or even the irregulars from the really cheap stores have been used in the past. something else we dont do when making our vbs shirts is put the year on them. that way the kids can wear them over and over without having an actual date on their backside but still have the theme on it. we usually decorate our shirts with either stamps and fabric paint or we use spray bottles filled with rit fabric dye mixed with water and salt that we spray the shirts with over a pattern. julie s.

Hapi coats are Japanese cotton waist length kimonos.

If anyone in your church sews, you could buy some very inexpensive cotton & have them sew up something very simple (use a short robe as a pattern). I have a silk-like robe that is flowery & I will use that because it looks kind of like a kimono.
Stephanie, how do you go about obtaining the logo for the t-shirts at appealingapparel.com? I went to the site but was a little confused on how you actually ordered the shirts.
LifeWay's Specialty Imprints will also personalize VBS shirts for your church. Here is the direct link to their website. You can reach them and order using the 1-800 number or via email.

The VBS logo is copyrighted, but permission is given to churches who purchase the curriculum to use the logo for promotion and enhancement of their VBS. T-shirts can be printed only if the church absorbs the cost of the t-shirts and printing. The t-shirts cannot be sold to the children.
Just found a good quantity t-shirt with 1 color, 1 logo from our neighourhood shop. It's only $5.99 each and no need to pay set up fee. I think they only do Jacksonville, Florida but you can find out more details by e-mail the shop at cmwinternational@gmail.com God Bless!
