Hello,
I belong to a very small church and I am in need of some ideas. WE don't have the fund to buy a big starter kit the store offer. We just try to make one up ourselves. We have decided to go with the Lava Lava Island theme from a few years ago. I am looking for any materials and ideas anyone may have.
GOD Bless
Shannon

Lava Lava Island is a tropical island theme that was put out by Group. Just a few items we used: inflatable Palm Trees, volcano, rope bridge, huts, coconuts, monkeys, leis, tissue paper flowers and palm leaves cut from paper, vines twisted to hang from the ceiling . Lots of red, yellow, green and orange were used. We did this theme before we started using Lifeway 2 yrs ago.

My husband still has some things he designed for the them and we also have a whole box of decorations that you can buy from us if you would like. It has palm trees and much more in the box.

You can e-mail me for more ideas and pics. vbs@njcc.us

Hi. ErickainNJ seem to have the best helps and ideas. I can't think of anything besides that which have been suggested. Maybe some room can be done in a luau theme and some rooms in a jungle theme while others focus on Volcano view - perhaps even have one room look like inside a volcano! Sorry...I can't think of much for this VBS theme. I also suggest you google it...many churches that did this theme still seem to have pictures up and information about their decoration on their websites (I did not go to any of the websites but from the websites descriptions when I googled this VBS theme I read some parts). Check it out.

Hope this helps.

A neighbor church did the Lava Lava Island the same year we did the Jungle theme. Amazon or whatever it was called. A neat thing that Lifeway suggested and we both did was vines. The neighvoring church used waterhoses. Hanging from the ceiling with silk flowers and leaves.
We did what Lifeway advised. We took the brown roll paper towels (like school bathrooms use) and attached the end which we twisted to an electric power drill. One person turned on the drill (don't get in a hurry) while the other one unrolled the paper towels. It twists into a nice vine that can be zig-zagged and thumbtacked from side to side in the ceilings of rooms and hallways. Now this part may shock you, but I gathered flowers and leaves from the throwaway pile/dumpster at a family cemetery. Even faded ones look good when you cut the stem with wire cutters and bend them over the vine. You get a really nice effect for HARDLY any cost! I did take some ribbing about "robbing" graves! We also made butteflies with pipe cleaners and tissue papers and used to decorate.

One big thing, stay away from TIKI's. We had a huge debate on the board about that, but they are gods to the people of the islands. Just wanted to comment on the debate from a few years ago.

Shannon,

I sent you an e-mail of the supplies we have left over. Forgot to mention we have red streamers as well, we hung them among the vines in a few areas.
