Hey everyone! The children's director in my church asked me to be the lead teacher of a 3 year old VBS class. I'm really excited, and I really want to do it, but the thing is, I'm only 14. I've been helping with VBS for 2 years, and I love it, but I'm really nervous. The main thing I'm worried about is teaching them. What are some ways I can effectively teach a group of 3 year olds. And, I'm afraid the parents aren't going to love that at 9th grader is watching their child all day. Can you help me and give me some tips? Thanks you so much!
jcreek, when your teaching preschoolers, the main thing is to always keep things going, so study the material and over-prepare your activities. If you don't get to an activity you've planned to do, it's okay, but if you have dead time, that's when you will have problems. The other thing to remember is that preschoolers are active learners. Get them involved in telling the story through acting it out in some way. Finally, remember that your children's director knows what he is doing, and if he asked you to teach, it's probably because he sees something in you that makes him believe you are going to be really good at it. As far as the parent's go, they may be skeptical at first, but just remember what Paul told Timothy, in 1 Tim 4:12:
"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe."
Hope this helps!

jcreek, You'll be surprised at how much they are able to learn!! My daughter is 3, and we just finished VBS, and she can tell me all her lessons and Bible verses. So my advice: don't shy away from the lesson!! Little people have SOOOO much to learn!!
