We're looking into using Outrigger Island materials for camp where the attendees are pre-schoolers, but barely fluent in some cases, so not up to a native English speaking child of the same school level. If we use the babies to 2s material, it might be too young for them, but 3 - pre K might be a challenge for the English. Any suggestions? It's my first time doing VBS so I don't know what to expect in each packet (and our budget is limited). p.s. Not Spanish speaking, so materials are not available in their native language.
I suggest you buy the 3s-PK pack, and have the TEACHER adjust the activities to the needs and levels of the children. That would be easier for the teacher than having to create more challenging activities if you find the other activities too simple. OR... buy both books (they're only $5) and the teachers can be ultra-prepared with both materials!
I don't know how you're working this, do you have teachers who are teaching in the native lanuage, or do you have translators? I've never done VBS in a foreign speaking environment. Anyway, if you're teachers are able to translate some of the activities that would help. I can tell you this because I've known many who have done it, the music will speak to these kids, even in a diffent language. I know a lot of short term missinoaries who have told me that they couldn't speak the language but were able to connect with those they were working with through the music even though it was in a language they didn't understand. And the other thing I've been told many many times by missionaries is not to worry so much about the language barrier, God will deal with that, put all your effort into glorifying Him and being prepared with the materials. I'll be praying for you (and I am even as I type this). Have fun, show them His Love, and you will be successful! God Bless!

We did VBS last year in Ecuador with our Material that we had. It was very successful. We had translators, and bought the music cd from lifeway that was in spanish. They also offer different translations in all their material. Try it. It's so wonderful to share Jesus with other countries using VBS Material
