I lead the missions rotation in VBS. This week we are helping a very small church put on their first VBS in years(no children enrolled at church). We started this morning (Sunday) with 25-Praise God!! I also found out this morning I have 3, 4 and 5 year olds for missions. There is no Preschool rotation pack-only Bible Study book and my children's missions material. We continue tonight, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. There is no time to drive the sixty miles to Lifeway-even if they have it-we got the last Presch Smileool Bible Study book!
I tried to adapt this morning, but these children are unchurched and you really can't keep their attention for long-especially for missions-something totally new to them! I plan on mostly games and maybe part of the video tonight-but 20 minutes is a long time with nothing to do! If anyone has the missions rotation and can tell me some activities for the next 3 nights I would greatly appreciate it!

one of the activities that the ladies that do mission friends with my daughter did one night was to play grocery store with them. They brought in a bunch of empty food containers and had them go shopping. Then they taught the kids how people in other countries sometimes don't have enough to eat and they don't have a store to go to. They sent the kids home with their groceries and told them that when they looked at their bag of food they were to pray for missionaries who go to these places and help teach them better ways to grow food and how the most important thing they bring them is spiritual food of the Word of God. You can relate it to the verse where Jesus says that man does not live by bread alone, but by God's Word. The kids were encouraged to pray for missionaries every time they looked at their bag of groceries.

Thanks bcfbrian! I taught MFs years ago-it's coming back to me. I guess I just needed to get my brain moving in that direction!

One night I am taking the 2 years old around to pass out bottled water to all of the helpers. I will talk about how missionaries pass out water. One night I am giving a lesson on how missionaries go to help people paint and repair houses. I am giving them water and foam paint brushed and we are painting the picnic tables. One night we are sailing boats in an inflatable boat harbor and talking about how missionaries sometimes have to go by boat to reach people. Last year I had a sack with everyday items in it and told how they could be a missionary by using these every day items. The kids favorite was Grandpa's smelly socks. They weren't really smelly, but the kids thought that was hilarious. We talked about how you could give clothes to people who needed them. I also had a camera, sports equipment, cards, bible, crochet hook, snacks, and several other items.

ElaineD-I can't wait to do some of those this week ! I have 20 min,-enough time to hand out the water and go outside and "paint" the concrete walls. My husband is helping me-hmmm-think I'll have him take off and offer his smelly socks! Thanks loads! God Bless! Smile
