We did not have the boys and girls do the folding of the canoe because we felt it would be too "busy" and would be distracting to the boys and girls. We decided the boys and girls would be more intrested in making the canoe or looking at how someone else did their canoe than listening to the Plan of Salvation. My grand daughter was our youth worker in our class and she sat and made the canoe as the teacher taught the lesson. The teacher would pause and the youth would fold the canoe at the specified time. It worked great and the boys and girls were very attentive watching her fold the paper and listening to the lesson. For the activity I cut a canoe from cardstock and typed across the top "Canoe You Do This?" - then underneath "Canoe You Do This?" on the first line I typed "I have already accepted Jesus as my Savior", on the second line I typed "I am ready to accept Jesus as my Savior" and on the 3rd line I typed "I am not ready at this time to become a christian." Before each statement I made a line in order for them to check their answer. I ran them off on a copier, cut them out and gave each boy and girl one to fill out. They scattered around the room so each one would have privacy. When they finished the "canoes" were deposited these in a sand bucket. Then the teachers and I read them to see if anyone was ready to talk to an adult about becoming a christian. (If you are having trouble folding the paper, get a young person to do it - it will be a breeze for them.) Hope this helps.
