Yes, I guess we must have been posting at the same time. Funny how that happens sometimes!
I'll have to change my screen name pretty soon. I guess I could be Lori in TX, or maybe Lori NOT in FL Lori D Visit our family web site: http://birkdalebunch.com/ |

Today will be a very full day for us! This morning our handbell choir is ringing in the church service. That includes me, my husband, and oldest daughter. We have rehearsal at 9:30 then will ring at the beginning of the 11:00 service. After church they are having a going-away luncheon for our family. Everyone is bringing a covered-dish for lunch and it will be a chance for us to visit with and say good-bye to some of our church friends. Then this evening our girls will go back for youth activities. My mom came over to visit for the weekend and will be heading home this afternoon.
For some reason I did not sleep well last night at all and kept having very strange dreams. I don't know if it was just nerves from all the activity today or something I ate or what. I woke up at 4 AM after having another strange dream and couldn't go back to sleep. I stayed in bed for about an hour but then was too restless to even rest, so I got up. I have a feeling I'll need a nap this afternoon! Lori D Visit our family web site: http://birkdalebunch.com/ |

Hi Ladies,
So glad you all seem well. Christine must be extra busy ~ hopefully not still dealing with the aftermath of the storm they went through, My computer problem seems to be in the router we use. Hope to have that fixed soon. My kids all have the yucky noses and coughs right now I found my colloidal silver and am gonna use that along with some of the herbal stuff I've been using. Had a busy weekend decided to make a nice sit down dinner, Had some turkey breasts in the freezer and made yams and turnips from our little garden experiments. The yams were from a jelly jar garden we started last winter and the transplanted into the ground in the spring it gave use about a dozen sm yams and 4-6 med sized ones all from one starter yam! I had a packet of turnip seeds and just sprinkled into fertile soil and got tons of turnips with little care given to them all summer. So that was real fun digging them up with the kids and eating them for dinner! i've lost another 5 pounds so I don't want to think too much about pies but I know I can't do a huge dinner for thanksgiving so I thought I'd just make two special pies. I love pumpkin and my dh thinks blueberry would be nice, sweet yams, and millet with hazel nuts and apricots, green beans and turkey will be our special meal. What kind of thanksgiving plans do you al have. I plan on starting some unit studies now since we don't do halloween that will keep their minds on harvest and pilgrims and the like. I didn't prepare anything for columbus day but will google and see what we can find! Maybe go to the library too. Quiver the book i'm reading is written by j richard fugate it's called what the bible says about child Training parenting with confidence , i ordered it from heart of wisdom and noticed it was recommended by christine as well in one of her books i've read. You would really like this book it is all Biblically based and has no psychology. It doesn't cater to the fades in child training at all and is very easy to read. Also challenges the parent to be a more spiritual christian! i really like the librivox site you shared thank you! Lori, I sure hope your mind can rest. I have moved a lot and it is always a hard time all around. Try to take breaks from it all regularly so you can minimize the stress. Well ought to get to work on chores now. ttyl |

We're trying to get started back to school today after a long weekend off. My husband was off work yesterday so we took the day off school, too. This morning I went and had my lab work done so my doctor will have the results at my appointment on Friday (which is a follow-up appt from the reaction I had to the Zocor). I was supposed to do the labs on Friday but totally forgot about them!
We'll do school this morning and early afternoon, then two of my girls are going to spend the night with a friend. My son is working, so just my oldest daughter will be home with me this afternoon. She'll like that, since she loves having one-on-one time. I hope everyone has a great week! Lori D Visit our family web site: http://birkdalebunch.com/ |

Lori I hope you have a nice morning of school and a peaceful afternoon.
Quiver, Sure hope your kids aren't too bad off. Mine rarely get stomach upsets but they get the head/ chest colds 3-4 times a year I took the girls out to the neighborhood and walked an hour this morning before it rains, So glad I did maybe I can get on a routine with this instead of getting upset that the boys take forever to roll out of bed! Always looking for solutions! jacinda |

Thanks Jacinda,
The stomache bug is gone but now My 12yo has hurt her foot and we're off to see an orthipedic surgeon... She's on pointe in ballet and can't risk practicing until we know her foot is okay. A nurse thinks it is broken. Husband was home yesterday but is gone to Oklahoma today. I'm having computer problems again.... Apple said they will probably replace this computer due to soooo many problems. Lori, I take my hat off to you! Continuing to homeschool during a move, now THAT'S gumption! I must get off to listen to Christian Classics on BBN radio. Ya'll need to listen! http://www.bbnradio.org If I don't log on again today, know that the computer died, again, and I'm on my way to a new Macbook!!!! married 20 years mom to eight http://blessedmuch.multiply.com/ |

My dh frequents the mac forums and says the mac books just haven't performed well. He listed all the reasons why but I can't remember
One was over heating just no place for a fan and so they overheat and damage themselves that way. |

Husband got this Macbook for our 20 anniversary last May; sort of an anniversary/mother's day/homeschool present. First, the DVD drive went out, (after eating some important disks of 18S!!!)
Then had to replace the logicboard, some heatsink doohicky...even the top case. They have replaced most everything on this laptop. Then the infamouse Mac.OS update that fried it!!! A few days ago, the power cord started smoking!!!!! I had to use the computer sparinly. Apple sent a replacement last night. I'm typing with trepidation, waiting for the next thing... married 20 years mom to eight http://blessedmuch.multiply.com/ |

Sorry to be a serial poster but... oh well.
Yesterday was a difficult one with 14s. He was constantly questioning me, generally causing strife. Finally, he refused to change into clean clothes in order to take sister to the doctor. "You read to us that we shouldn't worry about what we wear, and now you're saying to change clothes?" (quoting Matthew 6) I finally handed him my Bible and told him to look up in Proverbs verses that he thinks I would quote to him. "I can't find any." "Try again." "There aren't any here." "If you can't read any verses to apply to this situtation, I will drag you down to church, meet with Pastor Ronnie and Bro Shawn and tell them how you have been breaking the 5th commandment and we will discuss this openly and together." He started finding verses. I finally saw his heart softening. He apologized and was a wonderful son the rest of the day. Why does he always test me when Dad is gone? Do you ever wonder just what the Lord has in store for a child that just can be hard to handle? I tell 14s that God must have a fantastic plan lined up for him because the devil does his best to throw 14s off track. Some days, Ritilan sounds soooooooo good. married 20 years mom to eight http://blessedmuch.multiply.com/ |

Quiver, Obviously I don't know your son, but in that paragraph it sounded like you were talking about MY son! All his life he has been an extremely challenging child! My mom used to tell me she knew God must have something really important for this boy to do, because the devil was fighting so hard to take control of him. I think my mom was right, and we spent years literally battling for his heart and soul. There were days, especially when he was between 12 & 15 yrs old, that I honestly thought we were losing the battle. But God won, and today my son is a dynamic, strong, Christian young man who wants nothing more than to serve Jesus. God has worked a miracle in his life. I really do believe that the "hard to handle" kids do have something really big ahead of them, and God is using these battles to prepare them to serve Him later on. Hang in there! You'll make it! 5lbs? Wonderful!!! I seem to be gaining after #8's birth. I haven't been able to make plans for Thanksgiving yet since I don't know Husband's schedule... We'll probably have a simple family meal of some type of poultry, or venison, vegetables, salad and a dessert. I dearly love Sweet Potato Pie but everyone else like chocolate cake.
we've been enjoying it too. married 20 years mom to eight http://blessedmuch.multiply.com/ |

I haven't had turnips in a looooong time. (probably 30+ years)
I really like turnip greens but I'm not sure what to do with turnips roots. I think Mom used to cook them cut up and boiled like potatoes. married 20 years mom to eight http://blessedmuch.multiply.com/ |

I really am so glad that you both talk about your ds's My Timmy is young yet at 5 but OH how I know he fits in well with what your boys do. He is very passionate in his thought and actions and sometimes I wonder what his teen years will be like
I read the one about Quiver's ds not wanting to get dressed to Luke he just put clean clothes on after many reminders that that is part of his morning routine and UMMM now it is dinner time!!! Turnips OH we have got to finish them tonight. They really are a different kinda taste kinda like a radish takes a little time to * like * them enough to eat them. I did just boil them but I heard you can boil and whip like potatoes with butter salt and pepper sounds good but never got that far! Quiver praise the Lord your dd is not suffering from broken bones/ hope the bruising goes down quickly! |

Isn't it funny how things that are unbearable when we are isolated are easier, and even humorous, when we learn we're not alone? I'm so glad we are able to help each other with our very boyish boys!
We actually had sleet yesterday here in Arkansas!! Can snow be far behind??? Yeee-Hawwww!!!!!! married 20 years mom to eight http://blessedmuch.multiply.com/ |

Well, the closest we've come to "winter" is that the pool water temperature is too cold to swim, and we've been able to turn off the AC a couple of times and open the windows -- in the morning anyway. By mid-day they're closed up again and the AC is running.
I have two whole days (that's 48 hours) that I'm childless! Our girls are all gone on a youth retreat this weekend. Our son is home, but he's working tonight and tomorrow night so we won't see much of him. So what are we doing on our weekend alone? We're packing and cleaning out the garage! How's that for a romantic weekend? Lori D Visit our family web site: http://birkdalebunch.com/ |

Lori, My dh and I have running jokes about that sort of thing. Whenever he even gets a bit of time off he's either on a lay off, welcoming a new baby into our family, moving or doing some very overwhelming job at our new house.
Vacation we really don't know the meaning of it. We never even gave ourselves a honeymoon. Never had the time or money! We just figure someday when we might get something that resembles true relaxation we'll really appreciate it! Or we'll be grandparents at that point and want to visit with grandchildren BTW I'm gonna try to at least encourage some little dates on our b- days and our anniversary. We really need to have some special memories of just us. Our dates when seeing each other were at the laundrymat and grocery store ! We were so broke we had to be practical and accomplish two things at once. Maybe he feel in love with me for how I folded his laundry. Hey, a lonely guy going home to his apartment with clean folded laundry might think that a wonderful thing Have fun finishing up some of your chores together. At least play some nice music and stop for a decent meal with flowers on the table! |
