Tonight my family and I went to the school our son is currently attending, for the annual Winterfest. We will began homeschooling in the fall. The school Principal is a close family friend. She came over to speak. I told her about our intentions to homeschool and that it wasn't anything against the school, but we believed that this was a call from the Lord. She was aware of our decision and said that she just worries about their "social stigma". It hurt my heart. My hubby says don't worry what others say, but this is easier said than done. I know that we have our children's best interest at heart. I'm sure that someone has been through this very same situation. I guess I just need some encouragement.

Hi Kellie,
Don't let that bug you! That's the typical public school response. They can't criticize homeschoolers for academics or values integrity, so they fall back on the old "they won't be socialized" argument. The reality is that homeschooled kids have more wholesome socialization. They are around people they love and they are around people of all ages, rather than just their narrow age group at school. After you've been homeschooling for a while, you will see what an ignorant comment that is. Keep your chin up! Christine |

Amen! Don't let that bug you. I homeschool five and after 4 years I still get those comments from people who don't know any better but what I hear more often from those who really know my childre is: I just love being with your children. They are so fun and interesting and polite, and on and on it goes.
