What ways do you praise your children? Do you reward them for "grades?" Is a pat on the back enough?

Hi Christine,
At the end of each school year (in SA we run from Jan - Dec in 4 tems of 9 -11 weeks) I create a portfolio and a written review for each child of their year. My dh takes each child to his side as we all sit and listen. He reads through the review and praises them verbally. If there is an area they still need to work on like a character issue he will encourage them. Then they each get a particular reference type book to add to their library with a dedication written in the front. We base the choice of book around their passion - my dd gets horse type encyclopedias, my son - tanks, planes etc, my next dd got a book on dog breeds this year and last year cat breeds, my little guy still gets a fun book cause he is only 5. My children love their "prizegiving"...and we all look forward to praising one another. Blessings Wendy www.homeschool-curriculum-for-life.com "A child is a person in whom all possibilities are present - present now at this very moment - not to be educed after many years and efforts manifold on the part of the educator."
