How on earth do you motivate a child who is frankly NOT interested in current schoolwork selections and/or is distracted by either an upcoming holiday or birthday or vacation or some similar sort of family activity? I'm running out of ideas!
My 2nd grader is frankly 'done' with his Sing, Spell, Read and Write - but has another 8 lessons to go to completely finish the curriculum. His birthday was last week and trying to have him complete his work was IMPOSSIBLE! (sorry for shouting) Consequently, he will be doing his schoolwork while his younger brother will be able to take a small break for the Thanksgiving holidays. He was aware of this consequence - but doesn't seem fazed by the concept (now, I know this child, he will throw a fit when he walks through this reality. He's hoping Mom won't stick to her guns and let him slide. HA! Hasn't happened in the past, won't happen now either! Will he ever learn that I mean what I say and I say what I mean? Ugh!). How would you help this child stay focused and motivated? Seeking ideas and answers that you may have used in the past. Forgoing the work and/or creating different work isn't something I choose to do. I'm needed in different ways too right now and just don't think I could handle making material out of the air. Thank you in advance. Blessings to you and yours, Jenn in Illinois |
