I got into poison ivy - twice. Once on Friday while getting a frisbee I had accidently thrown into it. I knew the p.i. was there, but my dh kept saying he'd get it (that was monday or tuesday) but he kept forgetting though I'd remind him. Piglet really wanted to play!
Then today: we have some areas of grass that we can't use a regular lawnmower because of the plants we want to keep. So I grabbed it with my bare hands and used small pruning(?) cutters. My dh stopped me only because he was working on the junk in the garage and wanted me to watch the kids closer-like. I didn't realize there was poison ivy there too! I got it on my hands, on my face, and it's spread to places I can't scratch in public! No, I am not going to church tomorrow! Anyone else doing something this crazy, they'd like to admit. Just to keep me company? |

Haven't done it myself, but one son or the other seemed to manage it every summer. Their daddy could roll in it and never be bothered--go figure!
If it is on your face and those other "sensitive" areas, it would be a good idea to call the doc and get a Medrol dose-pac--a short, but very effective, round of steroids. Poison ivy can actually be harmful if it gets in and/or near your eyes, etc. Fortunately, the dose-pac is really cheap (I think it's on the $4 list at Wal-M*art), and most docs won't require you to come in if you've seen them in the last year or so. Hope you get well soon! |

Hi snmom,
What a major bummer! I feel so bad for you, although I've never gotten poison ivy myself... Ouch! This Medrol pac must be a new thing, and who knows, it may be of help to you. Here is another website to look at regarding poison ivy rashes: http://mayoclinic.com/health/poison-ivy/DS00774/DSECTIO...nd%2Dhome%2Dremedies I will be praying that it goes away or is at least tolerable for you soon... Love in Christ Jesus, Jennifer |

Thanks, ladies. It's much, much better today! My face is still slightly red, but overall, I'm thankful. Hardly any itching either!
I've been using this special Burt's Bees Poison Ivy soap that we had gotten when Rabbit had poison ivy - it worked great for her. And we had a lot left (a great investment for $9!). Thanks so much for your prayers and advice. BTW, I never knew it could be so bad if it got into your eyes. I've had it in my eyes twice and survived it okay. Fortunately this time I don't think it got into my eyes. PTL! |

God is SO good! I'm glad you're feeling better. I hadn't heard about the Burt's Bees product, but that's good info to know. The Medrol dosepac has been used for years and years Sparki. It works really fast, and can be used for pretty much any kind of allergy (esp rash types). Helps quiet down the immune system and gives the body a chance to heal.

I can relate. I get poison ivy from the air..so I am very careful. Going to church would not have been so bad...others have been accident prone too. There is a warm fuzzy that others are as human as us...also church members would love to pray for you.
God Bless happy to hear you are better. Lisa
