Aloha!
I have a concern and knew this to be the best place to ask. In a coed Bible study, is it okay for a woman to be teaching? What does the Bible say on this? Thank you very much! Vicky |

Vicky,
To keep from getting into a battle with other denominations on Lifeway's site, you might want to just do a word search for the word "teach" on Lifeway's online Bible. There is a thumbnail on the Main Menu that says "search." Click on "search" and put in the word "teach." You should get plenty of links to scripture. Here's a link to their Online Bible search: Search Hope this helps and hope this also keeps our community out of a circle of denominational differences. Lifeway is Southern Baptist. You may find some articles on their site that can help you. |

And here's something that may offer help and guidance. I haven't read this commentary but what I read in the article sounds like it may offer sound information about gender related issues.

The Commentary article you offered Twinkle was very good.
I will only post what I heard Beth Moore say, (she taught a 900+ member Sunday School class for many years) she stated she was not out to gain men as an audience but she was grateful if a man was willing to submit to her teaching and willing to welcome them into her class. When she retired from her Sunday School class at FBC Houston she had as stated 900+ members and there were men there. At my previous baptist church the Pastor was the Shepherd and the primary teacher for the congregation. He was also the direct overseer for all ministers volunteer and paid staff. He allowed women roles of teaching and speaking before the mixed congregation and classes as long as they were accountable to the male leadership in their home and church. Each church and denomination will have a different policy on how they govern their church in this area. I personally would not feel comfortable offering myself to teach men based on my understanding of the Scriptures. However, if men submit themselves to my teaching - that is not my decision and I welcome the opportunity to teach women at any time. As a matter of fact, many people ask me why the mentoring group for bereaved mothers is just for mothers and not for fathers, too. I have to tell them, I don't have a man to partner with me in the ministry - (my husband is not willing to join me, he is a step-father and has trouble in the support environment) and well, it could be awkward trying to facilitate a healing environment that will minister to both men and women from a woman's point of view. |
