I've been asked to lead a Beth Moore study at our new church but have no idea how to choose. I've heard that Breaking Free might be a little too intense for our first time around with this. Any other thoughts? Is there a place that lists each study with an overview of each?
Thank you so much for your help! |

I am getting ready to lead the Believing God study at my new church. I went through it about 6 months ago and now feel led to lead this one. It is great, especially motivating for a group, and a great one to start off with in a positive and challenging way. Its theme is an "Explosion on Faith" and makes you feel like you've been to a pep rally after each session.

I have done all of Beth's studies and love them all. One of the first ones we did several years ago was a Woman's Heart and we are about to go through it again. It is a study of the Tabernacle and is very good.
The Beloved Disciple is a good one as well. It is on the life of John To Live is Christ is a great study. It is on Paul and starts out with his birth. We did that one several years ago as well. It helped me understand Paul. A Heart Like His is the study of David. It is a good one too. Jesus the One and Only...well I guess that topic is obvious. Great Study. The Patriarch is a good study. It covers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It is a wonderful Old Testament study. Daniel is a great study. It is not an easy one however. I would not recommend it as a first study. I did not get to do all of When Godly People Do Ungodly Things. It is a good study but I would save it for later if I were you. Breaking Free is a wonderful study. It is a good one to lead up to the Believing God study but you do go very deep emotionally in this one. I would recommend you get a study or two under your belt before tackeling this one. You can check out www.lifeway.com/bethmoore to get more details. I hope this has been helpful. |

Go to Lifeway.com and click Beth Moore resources on the right.
When you get to the page, you can watch little video clips from all the studies, and see workbook samples as well. |

You can look at the publication dates for the study's as well. Of course the study's were pubished in the order of Beth's journey not necessarily the journey of your group.
Breaking Free is an intense study, not for the newest to In Depth Bible Study or the faint of heart. Pray intensely, set up prayer partners and encourage accountability partners if you do Breaking Free. Our women began in 2003 - we did "Jesus, the One and Only," "A Heart Like His," "When Godly People Do Ungodly Things" (it was the only one to fit in a 6-8 week timeslot), "Believing God", "Living Beyond Yourself", "Patriarchs", "Breaking Free", "Daniel" (Broken up into two semesters), and we concluded last spring with Loving Well before we moved to our new church home. The schedule worked for us, though One for Ungodly People doing Ungodly things really shook me because I was intimidated by the subject matter and didn't really want to do it or Breaking Free - ever. As you can see I completely wrestled and overcame those demons. Pray, take a survey and then trust what you sense God leading you to do. BLessings, Michelle |

I've never done one of Beth's Bible studies with a small group before, but I know that her "Believing God study" was the first one that I did, during the first online season, and it really spoke to me, especially since I was new to Bible study all together, and is a very good study to do, especially if you think that there might possibly be some ladies in the group who only "think" that they know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
However, if you know for sure if all of the ladies in the group do already belong to Jesus but want some practical biblical advice about how to live the Christian life, I would recommend her "Living Beyond Yourself study". Due to the "deepness" of her "Breaking Free study", I would not suggest using it as a first study for your group. And, although it was only my 3rd study [and, I was doing it between God, Beth, and myself on audio tapes], when I was half way through it, I realized that there was something missing in my life, and it was something that our dear teacher, Beth, had, that I knew that I did not have. I did not have the joy, peace, or the love in her heart that she had ... But, in a few days after I realized this, it did literally "change my life forever". It was at that point in my life that I realized that I knew a lot "about" who Jesus was/is, but that I did not actually truly "know" Jesus like Miss Beth did. So, I finally found someone who could answer my questions, and I came to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior that afternoon, and it was truly the best thing I've ever done in my lifetime, and I am now 40 years old. Back to choosing a study, I would ask the Lord for discernment, as to which study you should do together. And, yes, you also might want to tell the ladies what studies are available, and what they might contain, then ask them to help you choose. And, then, if I were you, I would pray a whole lot ... In Christ's love, Jennifer |
