We are a small church and we have used the VBS cir. for our Sunday School/Children's Church for the past year. We just finished up on Jungle Jaunt and our pastor and congregation love our decorations so much we are leaving them up until we are ready to start with Cactus Canyon.

We are recycling much of our green paper from JJ and turning it into large sequoia cactus to place around the Fellowship Hall. We have a really long wall with 6 windows on it and we are creating an Old West Town with store fronts on that wall with brown paper. We are blessed to have some talented and creative artists in our church and they are going to do all the detail work. We are making a "wooden" sidewalk out of cardboard in front of the store fronts. On the opposing wall we are using brown paper again and using oil pastels to create a the feeling of standing on the edge of a canyon looking out. We will have our campsite in a corner there. For Jungle Jaunt my husband built a mini jungle jeep (about 5 feet long) out of an oversized flat screen TV box (this thing was bigger than our truck bed!) We got it from a dumpster behind an electronics store and knew it would work great. He will be building a mini chuck wagon (kids size) using another of these huge boxes!!! We will also be creating a general store where we will do music from. Can't wait to hear all of your ideas!!!

I am so excited! I walked into the Dollar Tree yesterday and found stick horses for... you guessed it... $1.

I had some extra wrapping paper tubs behind the door at home so I pulled out a few and made me a small correl for my new horses.

It was very easy. I took 4 tubs and lay them out on the floor, one laying vertical and two laying horizontal somewhere in the middle and the last one vertical again. I cut two slits in the vertical tub (post) and pinched the end of the horizontal tub (post) so it would slid into the vertical one. Did the same all around so it looks like a fence. I made 4 and use some twine to wrap them into a pin for my horses. Just the right size to hold my 4 wild stick horses.

My next project is to make a barn. I want to make the front of a barn out of cardboard. It needs to be tall enough the kids can walk thru the doorway. Our Recreation time will be outside in a fenced in area. I can then secure the "barn" to the gate. I have a small sign which reads "Recreation Barn" which can be secured to the loft area of the "barn". I am looking for a good picture of cows or piggs or other farm animals that can be projected onto poster board.

Tinyangel-

Great idea for your barn! When looking for farm animals I "Googled" Farm Aminal Coloring Pages or even just Cow/pig/horse Coloring Pages... the best I found was when I "Googled" Bull Coloring Pages a wonderful pic of a steer came up that was perfect for the western theme! If you look at my pics on the other thread there is a pic of our steer. Great idea on the wagon too! Wink
