Why am I having such a hard time downloading the pictures from the VBS website. I would love to use them, but they are huge files considering they are supposed to be .ZIP files. Why not just post them as .JPG files at a reasonalbe resolution?

As I said, I would love to use them, but I can't wait hours for one picture to download.

Thought I'd answer with my own thoughts since this hasn't had a reply yet. Take it for what it's worth.

Appears to be a filesize issue as to why LifeWay would compress them. The JPG file inside the 1MB-4MB ZIP file, when uncompressed, is between 2MB-5MB in the PC files. Similar compression comparison for the Mac files. Multiply that by the 31 files and they saved a minimum of roughly 30MB-50MB of storage space.

Also imagine that LifeWay supplies these larger files, mostly 3.2 megapixel digital camera photos in this case, for resolution purposes. When displayed, the detail (resolution) of a photo will degrade rapidly with the greater size of the projected image.

I too had a very difficult time downloading the photo files. And tried it on a commercial T-1 connection, and on both a business 3MB DSL and a residential 1.5MB DSL connection.

It doesn't appear the problem is on our end. The transfer rate constantly dropped during all downloads from any of the locations I tried. Quite a number of times too, the download would 'stall out' and eventually disconnect.

Based on that, I'd suggest LifeWay needs to address that aspect of it with their IT people. I did however get all the files downloaded. Finally.

The resolution size is important for a couple of reasons. If you want to have the pictures printed on a large poster size to display, then you need a high res picture. Also, high resolution is necessary for professional printing. For professional off-set printing (newspapers, brochures, etc), the resolution has to be at least 300dpi at the same size it will be printed. I do my own graphic design work for our VBS promotion, and I am really grateful for Lifeway providing the hi-res images. If you don't plan to print large posters or have anything professionally printed, then you will want to click the "general use" option which is just a .jpg file and right click and "save picture as". That will be all you need. You will not need the advanced large images.

Hope that helps clarify the picture issue.

Sorry...I just realized my post above applies only to the clip art section. The downloadable photos does not offer a smaller version. The resolution issue is still the same, but I agree, it seems like a smaller option would help a lot of folks.
