I need help! We are a small church and not many of our members are able to help out. My Missions Teacher was in a car wreak and I have no one else to teach Missions. Would it be horrible to have the teachers use the Missions video in there classrooms? I am already teaching crafts and being the director. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
God Bless!
Holly

Hi Holly:
Our VBS is August 9th through the 13th and I am short on a missions teacher also and I am so determined to let the children know about how JEsus sends people everywhere to spread the Gospel that I am asking the teachers to take 10 minutes out of their bible study time to show the video and they have all ageed and has set up their schedule to share the tape and the TV/VCR so it can be rolled to each classroom at different times. The longest mission study is 6:30 minutes and that gives them a few minutes to discuss the topic of each day.
I hope this helps,
Angie Smile

Hi Holly,
I know exactly how you feel. I am the director as well as a teacher. We are a small church with only two other teachers and two helpers, five total. I don't think it would be terrible to do the missions in the classroom. Another idea is to include it during your opening or closing. We chose to do it during the opening along with the offering and allowed about 10-15 minutes for it. We have our pastor and another minister (who just recently came back from the Phillipines on a misson trip) coming in for two of the evenings to do the missions portion and to share a little about their trip. When is your VBS?
Ours in July 26-30. If I can be of any other help please let me know. You can email me at mohrmann@usadatanet.net.
God Bless.
April

I don't think it would be horrible at all. Do what you have to do. Don't worry with sticking to a form. Even if you do missions just one day or maybe save some materials for a Wednesday night "Missions Oasis" with your kids!
Even though it doesn't seem like it now, God is still in control. Am praying for you. Mary

I would like to tell everyone Thank you for the advice! The teachers are going to all do it themselves! We are even going to give the Kindergarten class a chance to watch it also! Our VBS is the 12th -16th! Please pray for us! I think we will have a great time!

If you do not have a Missions Teacher, perhaps you could show the video with your snacks. The classroom teachers could each take a turn on a different night with any discussion or anything else you may choose to do from the Mission book, Snack book, or both. This year, we had recreation from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. for the children who came early (Solved problem of teachers having things for the early arrivers to do). Then, we had snacks while the children were watching the Mission Video. This freed up some time in the evening to add to the Bible Study time. Also, the children seemed to focus on the video more while eating rather than squirming, touching each other, etc.

Hi You could also put missions at the end of your worship rally. That way you wouldnt need separate teachers for both classes.

In certain circumstances,Missions video and discussion can probably work during snack or rally, I believe.I started a topic similar to this in VBS Director's post.I started it before I read THIS post. There ARE rare exceptions, though.Missions is vital to showing children that we care about others and shows WHY we care.
