Hi Everyone,
This has nothing to do with VBS! Sorry! I am looking for new ideas for an Easter party. We have done the Ressurection eggs (which I love, but they do in SS) and a Veggie Tales movie (The Easter Carol, also love!).

It is really hard to find ideas that are religious that aren't too corny! Why can't we find great, fun ideas that are about Jesus?!? This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.

I would REALLY appreciate any help or ideas!

Thanks, Lisa Razz

My husband has a children's mini sermon every Sunday and we order alot from CTNinc.com. They are out of Fenton, Mo. Right now he is using the magnetic cross puzzle that separates into 6 parts with the directions with the puzzle. He finishes next Sunday. I hope this helps. Darlene

MrsLisa,
I don't know if this fits your time frame or not, but I thought I would share. The past few years, the "egg hunt" was held at one of the homes of a church member. The children were broken up into age groups while one group was hunting eggs, another group was eating, another group plays games and the last group enjoys hearing the Easter story (the pastor usually does this). At the end, prizes are handed out for most eggs, prize egg, etc. Hope this helps.

You could use the jelly bean prayer. It is a poem that uses the 8 colors of the jelly beans to tell about Jesus. Red is for the blood He gave is one line. You can find it by searching for jelly bean prayer. The children could make their own bag/egg of the jelly beans with the 8 colors. We had the children put together 8 jelly beans in a jelly bean egg (the jelly beans were big so only one of each fit) and made an Easter card with the prayer on the front to mail to a soldier friend in Iraq. The prayer was printed in color and cut into a fish shape. The bottom of the poem was the tail.

Something really fun that I'm doing this year for Easter is "Resurrection Rolls." This activity doubles as both craft and snack and can also be used to tell the Easter story. You need large marshmallows, melted butter, cinnamon/sugar mixture and crescent roll dough. Each child is given a marshmallow (notice it is pure white- no blemishes- like Jesus was perfect and without sin). The children dip the marshmallow in the melted butter (this symbolizes how he was anointed by the woman to show Him as king and to prepare him for burial). The marshmallow is then rolled in the cinnamon/sugar mixture (showing the spices of burial). Next each child wraps their marshmallow in the crescent roll dough taking care to seal all the edges together (this represents His body being sealed in the tomb). Put the rolls on a cookie sheet (I'm going to cover the sheets with wax paper and label each roll with the child's name) and bake in the oven for about 10 minutes. While it's baking you can talk about what Jesus' friends must have been feeling after Jesus died and how scary and sad those days must have been. When the rolls are done, take them out and allow them to cool slightly. When the kids break open the rolls the marshmallow will be gone! That's a wonderful time to talk about the tomb being empty and Jesus rising again on Easter morning!

I did the "resurrection rolls" with my 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School class last year and they loved it! It is hands on and helps them to better understand the story of Jesus' resurrection.
