Has anyone had experience with Lifeway's iron-on transfers for making your own t-shirts? Specifically, I would like to know what type of material and/or t-shirt company works well.
I just got a local wholesale t-shirt company's catalog in the mail, and some of the colored t-shirts for kids are less than $2 each! But I am not sure if we should get 100% cotton, or 50/50.
You can use the iron-ons with Cotton or a 50/50 blend. We used the iron-ons last year and will again this year. We found that last year's worked better on just a white shirt, not sure about this year's yet, we are thinking a light blue or white to make the image pop more.
FYI - Michael's is selling shirts for $1.88 each

I got a package of the iron-on transfers today, and they are small! They are just big enough to go on the "left chest" of a t-shirt. I was a little disappointed, but I think we will still use them. The t-shirts will be alot different from the one that Lifeway sells, but that's OK. They will be unique for our church's Arctic Edge VBS. And they will be free to the kids!
We purchased royal blue shirts at Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago when they were half price. With the additional 10% off they offer with a chruch check we got the shirts for less than $1.
The store didn't have enough in stock so they order them for us and they were there in about a week.
We are ironing the transfers on and letting the kids do snowflakes and bear prints around the neck, down the sleeves, etc. as their craft on Monday.
We are very fortunate to have a church member that works for a local dry cleaner who is going to put our transfers on for free. We ordered our shirt from Michaels for $1.88 and I bought transfer paper in bulk on ebay. We'll have less than $2.20 in each shirt!
You guys might want to consider asking a local dry cleaner to put your transfers on for free if you have a lot to do. We have over 100 shirts to do and I would get very tired if I had to do all of those myself!
Hey Michelle, Tell me about the transfer paper... Do you copy the logo you want onto the paper, then transfer it to the t-shirts? If so, does it take a specific type of printer or will an ink jet work? We paid for a t-shirt shop last year & it was quite expensive & the logos from lifeway are smaller than we'd like. Thanks for any tips you might have! :] nancy

You just copy your logo onto the paper, make sure you do a mirror image or reverse image so that your words come out right. You can use an ink jet printer for the transfer paper. If you are not doing the logo to big you can get a couple to a sheet. This is a quick and easy way to get everyone shirts.
caspaige is correct. Here is a link to the ebay store that has the best deal on the transfer paper. I just received my second order yesterday. http://stores.ebay.com/Heat-Transfer-Supplies If you have any questions, feel free to email me at ipull4gordon2@nc.rr.com
