I just have to share this idea. When my husband was younger, the church he attended had a "Mr. Pockets." The idea behind him is to offer incentive for the children to learn the weekly verse and each daily verse. Last year we had "Mr. Pockets" at our church. I made pockets out of felt and attached them to an apron using stitch witchery. Each day "Mr. Pockets" would fill the pockets on the apron with small items (keychains, small bouncy balls, gum, candy, etc) and if a child knew his memory verse for the day they chose a pocket and received whatever was in the pocket. This was a big hit with the children! This year we are making a holder like the vendors wear at the stadium for "Mr. Pockets" to carry his goodies.

I loved this idea. I am going to use it during my VBS Kickoff event. I am going to have a clown called Miss Pockets the clown. She will walk around the carnival and talk to the kids an dlet them pick a prize from her pocket. I have some Bible pencil sharpeners, easers, keychains, candy, stickers and pencils. I though this would be fun for the kids.
Thanks for sharing Terrie |
