Does anyone else use yard signs to promote? We've never used them but I saw another church last year use them and thought it was a good idea. I was just wondering if anyone knows how expensive they are or if we could make them ourself and how.
Maybe Lifeway will provide some for purchase next year (hint, hint
We are planning to use the yard signs to help promote this year as well. I haven't checked into the cost but figured we could make them on our own. Our church has a color printer that will do 11x17 paper. I thought I could find 11x17 cardstock, use the clip art, have them laminated and attach to sticks. Let me know if you come up with any other ideas or resources. Thanks!

We have someone paint a sign for us on both sides; it has the dates of VBS and the times and a phone number for more information. We usually use a 4x8 piece of plywood. Make sure the paint is waterproof. I know in the past we have used acrylic paints and put a sealant on top. Allison
We use the yard signs. We had a local company make them for us. We ordered 100 for right at $175. You write on them with a marker the dates and then the next year you can "erase" the dates and rewrite. Great investment!!!
We have used yard signs for several years and feel it is one of our best promotional items. We have them professionally printed on waffle board. They hold up in bad weather. We ask families in the church to "adopt a sign" for $5 which covers 1/2 the price of the sign. They take it home and ross when done. There is always a line at the table of people volunteering to help!

Can you tell me the size of the signs you have had made and the type of shop that makes them?

Most of your local printing shops will make yard signs for you. Last year we purchased some and we are hoping to get bumper stickers to cover the date so we can reuse the signs. We didn't have too many church members take one home, so they mostly lined the church property. We are on a main road through town so we got some good exposure, but I don't know how many kids came because of the signs.
We've always put up a banner or two alongside the road and I think that was as efficient as the yard signs were. The signs drew your attention the first time you saw them, so we might wait until a little closer to VBS to put them up this year. After you see them a few times, you start to ignore them.
check with the coke or pepsi company in your area,,, they donate us afew banner each year,,,,if you know anyone that works for one of these companys....that helps....also include your older youth to help make sighs,,,
We ended up ordering some signs from an internet company called Big Daddy's Signs. We got 25 signs (18x24) that are 1 color/2-sided with stands for about $10 each. The turnaround time is very quick.

Thanks for all the ideas. We ended up purchasing some banner and yard sign kits that are put out by Avery from Home Depot. They turned out really good and we were able to do more than just one color. Plus, I think we can reuse the signs next year.
