I'm looking for some different ideas for what the offering could go to. I know there are always missionaries. Any different ideas?

We have a local Women's Shelter. There are also food pantries, our local association has a relief fund that is used in the case of emergencies. How about a small church that needs help? This year, we plan to send our offering to a church member who is currently in Uganda working with AIDS patients. Many of the children know her, which makes it more personal to bring in money. Think about any organization that you know of with money problems. Any way that we can help another person is a possibility! If you have a local organization that is a "clearinghouse" for all non-profit service agencies, call and ask where your money could best be used. Just pray asking God to show you where He wants your money to be sent!! May He Bless your VBS!! Stephanie

I have a few ideals for you Jalaine. Last year our church paid the shipping cost for the shoes that we sent to Shoes For Orphan Souls. You could use it to buy items for Operation Christmas Child. You could give it to your local Sav-A-Life. At one church where my husband was pastoring we had a food pantry so we used the money to purchase food. (the children also brought canned goods.) I hope this helped. By the way I was born in Somerset and went to Wayne Co. High

Hey, Jalaine. In our town we have a max security women's prison. We have a fairly new mission project called Adullum House run by a family from England whom God sent over to our area to take in children for long-term foster care whose parents are incarcerated. They have no state funding whatever. Maybe you have something similar in your area. What a wonderful opportunity for young children to help other young children. We usually look for projects to help children. God has really blessed us with great offerings, too. I'm glad you have enough teachers for VBS. Still praying for you!

We have a local missionary that came and told our kids about her latest trip during missions class one evening this year. She finances all her trips herself, so, since she was kind enough to come down and share with our kids, we decided to give her the money we took up this year for her next mission trip.

We have a food ministry at our church. So during VBS, we always collect non-perishable food in addition to the money collected. We always incorporate the food into our stage decoration, too. In 2003, we had a fair, so we added the food as if it were an exhibit. Last year, we had a Japanese market. This year, we are adding them to our on-stage picnic. That way, the kids feel like they are helping a neighbor in need, and they are also decorating the stage for our church. Hope this helps!

We try to find a mission project that ties into the theme. Last year we sent the offering to church in Japan. Our first baptism in our church many, many years ago was a young lady that is now a pastor's wife in Japan. Since her return to Japan she has been responsible for sharing the gospel with her entire family as well as many others. We shared her story with the children each day.

This year the offering we collected will support a Mission Trip to teach Backyard Bible Club in 2 communities here in America. We explained to the children each day that the offering was going to be used to teach children in America about Jesus.

We also try to tie the offering into the theme. In 2005 for the Ramblin' Road Trip we collect offering for a Trucker's Ministry in Missouri. We would like to know what others are doing for 2006.

I think this year we are going to give it to our Associational Disaster Relief Team. It does not tie in with the Team but they have helped out in so many ways this last year with wildfires and the hurricane, who would benefit from it more. They are the strong ones....

Hi Jalaine! The Cooperative program is always a great place to give your offering as it is part of the SBC and all money goes to help missionaries. We did that for years. Last year, we gave money to one of our own church members who is serving overseas as a missionary. I'm sure wherever you give your offering, God will bless it and use it for His glory.

Hi! We send our ofering each year to the Florida Baptist Children's Home. We also plan other year round activities such as shoe box gifts and ice cream parties for the home. Our offering has always been about Children helping Children. Even though we do have the traditional 'boys against girls" competition, we remind everyone; They are all winners!
