We started having a youth class last year (2007) and we started with 5 of our own youth and grew to 25 by the end of the week. This year we are doing the same. I need help! I need ideas of activities to do with the youth. They will go to Worship Rally where we do the pledges and our storyteller does the main Bible Story, then they retreat to their own class for Bible Study, games, and activities. Last year was so easy with Game Day --- we played ballgames each night and they loved it! Any ideas for youth during Outrigger Island would be appreciated. God Bless!
Have you looked at the Youth VBS from LifeWay? It goes along with the Children's VBS theme. It would be a good place to look for material that is already related to what they hear in Worship Rally.
Yes, I have the Youth leader and learner guides, but am at a loss in how to teach it to them. Most of our youth last year were "unchurched" and I want to present the material in a fun/"youth" language that they will be excited about, not "here is the lesson, etc. I want them to know you can learn about God and have fun, and it not sound so confusing (like when you read your first King James Version Bible). Thanks.
I have taught youth vbs for the last three years. It has been 7th-12th grade. We had pretty much had our whole Youth Group attend with teens they invited. We had 4 teens that accepted Christ.
You don't have to do everything the leaders guide tells you. You will have to make up your own stuff to make it fun for teens.
We did it like we do Youth.
Some suggestions and ides we did:
Last day have a pizza party in your room or Youth building.
Go to worship, rec.and snacks and do your own thing as far as schedule rotation with the childrn's vbs
Get a copy of the children's recreation cards to get some ideas for games
More games the better.
Make sure you get your 45 min. of bible study in there somewhere thats the important thing.
This year we decieded that the Youth will participate in everything the children participate in. We also decided to put the older kids to work so our Youth vbs will be 7th-9th grade this year. I'll have to let you know how that works out.
My husband and I have taught youth(7-12) VBS for about 5 yrs now. And we try to make it as fun as possible. This year we are having trouble coming up with crafts. The ones in the book seem to childish. The boys aren't going to like making leis or hula skirts, so we are trying to come up with something different which has been really hard. We always like to make a picture frame each year and take their picture sometime during the week for it. This year it will be in the shape of a surf board( if I can find a pattern). If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Our youth used craft time to help in other classes and rotation sites, and they loved it. We divided them between the preschool and childrens classes. The youth helped with registration in the mornings-then went into their own bible study, music, missons, and had snacks/refreshments with the VBX.They joined everyone for Worship Rally, and closed the day out in their classrrom for closing bible study.

cherel72 look on page 32 of this years craft book you will find a surfboard picture frame that is one of the crafts. Instead of usingthe balsa wood I plan on using poster board and foam for the picture frames.
