Hi ladies,
What is a shining moment from homeschooling that stands out in your mind? Maybe is was a sunshiney day in the garden when you and your child found a toad. Maybe it was the day your strugging reader read their first whole page.
What are your gems? Have you thought about them lately?
Blessings,
Christine

Just now... LOL...

I got on here to share something that happened a few years back, while my two sons (age 10 and 8) are currently in the basement. I wasn't sure what they were doing. Older son came upstairs to tell me that he was reading a story to his younger brother, and told me a little about it. I praised him for thinking of others, which is sometimes hard for him to remember. He grinned, and said "Well, I better get back downstairs so he doesn't get scared," and took off. THAT was a sweet moment for me.

OK, the story that happened years ago, is this. We had just moved to our current home that has a large pond beside it. The boys were outside playing. My younger son came to the kitchen door (he was probably 5 yrs old at the time) holding a big, hulking, stinking, catfish head with a skeleton attached to it. My first reaction is ICK ICK ICK, and he is begging to bring it inside and "study it."

Hi Christine,
We're in the southern US and have been homeschooling since the beginning. We have 2 boys, currently in 5th and 3rd grade. Right now we're using Rod & Staff for both Math and English, and a year-long unit study based on the *original* Swiss Family Robinson (that has the Christian content still intact,) called "Prepare and Pray." So far we're loving it!

We're doing a nutrition program this semister and 5d was telling 3s to eat his broccoli because it
was full of "bitermans C" and that would fight "inflections" Not bad, but we still need some work. LOL! Smile

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I just have to share it somewhere! My son, who is 18 and graduated from our homeschool this past May, came to me today and said, "Thank you for homeschooling me!" Then he went on to tell me why he felt that way. He's told me some of this before, like that he was thankful we were able to fit his curriculum to his needs, adjust his schedule to suit him, etc. But today was different. He's been spending more time and doing more things with public schooled friends, and he just wanted to tell me that, now that he's experienced more of the "public school advantages" that he "missed out on", he's even more thankful that he was homeschooled! He listed off several things he's experienced lately that relate to public schools, and then said "And I missed them all -- thank God for that!" He is already determined that his children, if he should have any, will be homeschooled!

Isn't it funny how these things - the cute stories and the expressions of gratitude - can be such an inspiration to us? This Mom-Stuff can get so hard! Sometimes a chuckle or a shot of encouragement can send us soaring! I love it!
Anyone else?

Years ago when #4 was a baby, I was part of a homeschool co-op in Missouri and was teaching the 5&6 yo about the fruit of the Spirit.
One little boy recited:
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and REMOTE CONTROL!!
