How do you get your special learner to memorize math facts? Or, is it unimportant? My 6th grader still often consults her chart while working.
What's your secret? Got any tricks to share? Blessings, Christine |

My son with Asperger's had difficulty learning his math facts, but he understood the concepts so we let him go on (using the calculator or times table as much as needed). He made it through calculus in college, and the math facts were never an issue (except sometimes he was a little slower on the math computation section of the standardized tests, but I just didn't worry about that). As a result, I have not regretted my decision, because he might never have mastered them and gone on to higher levels of math if I had held him back for that. HTH, Genie

Hi Genie,
Thanks for sharing that. I fret so much about those darn facts! The reality is that she is continuing to understand increasingly complex stuff, so I shouldn't worry! Thanks again! Christine |
