Hello,
What are your favorite reading programs for struggling learners? What have you used with success?
Blessings,

Turbo Reader by Eagle Forum

Plus reading aloud and following along with my finger, letting little ones follow along.

After teaching short & long vowle sounds, then beginning with Genesis 1:1, reading from the Bible. The Creation story has most of the phonics rules demostrated and I think it's great to begin with The Beginning! Smile

Another thing I've done is wait until they show signs of being ready to read.

I read to my children ALOT! This is so good for hearing the spoken words-they read aloud as well to each other. We follow with our fingers for him. I try NOT to correct every mispronounced word as this is frustrating to my son. AND we have a limit on the number of mispronounced words per page. If your child has great difficulty reading a page-is it too hard? Grade level really means nothing--it is more important to build where a child is-and build on those successes. THen proceed to more difficult and smaller type. Has your child been tested? THIS is very helpful. We worked in the Abeka phonics/reading and when I saw my son struggling-we went to Sing Spell Read and Write by Sue Dickson. Very Very good for phonics/reading and multi-modalities: Games, readers, workbooks, music and more. Lots of fun and he enjoyed it. Reading needs to be fun. Books on tape can be fun too; especially if they are printed as well so a child can follow along. Our son is learning disabled with a specific: Language Learning Disability. BUT he does read!!! Unfortunately he "says" he hates to read. BUT guess what? He reads his email, gameboy games and AWANA handbook and Bible. I have been pointing to the lines in the hymnal in church for years too. Now he can follow this without me. I really didn't know he could READ until I caught him looking up his Bible verses himself. Praise the Lord!!! While it is difficult for him, he can function and do it. He is reading aloud EVERYDAY to both his sister and myself. I am proud of him. I hope this helps you with your child. cheryl

Being confident of this very thing that HE who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Christ Jesus-Phillipians 1:6
