Hi Ladies,
Has anyone with a special needs child tried a nutritional approach to help with their difficulties? I'd like to hear about your experiences. Blessings, Christine |

Our son is 7 and has Aspergers Syndrome and we give him digestive enzymes with every meal. We have done this for three years now with wonderfull results. We first heard of this through other parents and our child psyc. There is a book written on it called, Enzymes for Autism. The book is even at our library. The first week we tried the enzymes it was as if our son woke up. He made eye contact when speaking and told me he loved me for the first time. The book explains everything, but the premise is that the enymes help with the digestion and absortion of foods in his body. This lowers the opiat affect on his body and helps with tantrums, attention, digestion, nutrition and many others things. We were not willing to put drugs into his little body and this has been a great experience for our family. Now that he is 7 he can even tell us how he feels when he misses his enzymes a few times. In addition to the enzymes we also use the Feingold Diet. This is eliminating colors, perservatives, and for our son, corn syrup. You can find out about this diet through feingold.org they are a great organization and help you get started. I hope this helps someone. It has been a blessing to our family. If anyone has questions I would love to help.

I do not have a special needs child, but my family has been trying to use more of a nutritional approach to health and get away from medications as much as possible. We have two books, "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" and "Dietary Wellness" that we refer to often. I have found information in there that has helped us with a lot of common "ailments", anything from PMS symptoms to low energy to aches and pains. It really amazes me how much nutrition effects other aspects of life. These books are both written by Phyllis Balch. Since I've recently had a bad reaction to a medication, it has encouraged me even more to work at a nutritional approach rather than using medication.

Thanks Aangeline and Lori!
And welcome, Aangeline. Do you have other children in addition to the child with autism? What materials do you use to teach him? I'd love to hear more about your family! Blessings, Christine |
