Do any of you have adopted kids who have special needs? Were you aware of the need before the adoption?

Barbara (and any other moms of adopted special needs kids),
Would you be interested in allowing me to interview you - anonymously - for a new book I'm working on about the challenges of raising adopted kids?
Please contact me privately at christinefield@sbcglobal.net.
Thanks!
Chris

Hey Christine...I have 3 bio-boys(ages 17,16,13), 2 adopted girls(ages 13,11)here almost 3 years, and we are preparing to bring our 6 year old son home from China. He is deaf. I have homeschooled most of my kids at one time or another, just depending on their needs at the time. Our newest will be homeschooled indefinitely with me due to may issues. I am particularly interested in anyone with deaf kids they homeschool, and good materials. I have some ideas, but would always welcome more!

Hi
Our children are adopted and special needs. They are incredible children despite their issues. We found their 'wiring' to be dysfunctional after several years of parenting. Due to the nature of our adoption, I won't get specific on this forum...but it took some doing to get proper intervention and help. Because they are bright and gifted in many areas and don't appear with difficulties, it is sometimes a challenge to find services that they need, like recently having to find a new doctor and attempting to have the services of a developmental pediatrician in our new home town...she wouldn't take them as she determined 'they weren't severe enough' for her practice...so that leaves us with physicians who may or may not know our issues. But all else aside, our children are our greatest blessings! If you need another family, Christine, if we can remain unnamed we'd be happy to help with your book. We have home schooled for most of their educations. While a challenge I am amazed at their progress...We are up and going this year; they are incredible!
