I have been a director for many years. This year I have had the hardest time getting teachers. We usually have 250 children in VBS and I am so short that I will probably have to teach a class myself along with my assistant director. Please pray that I understand God's leadership in all of this. It's all about the kids learning about jesus anyway.

Do you have class with each age group, We have the kids go from bible story, to crafts, then to rec, music. The people in the room stay the same the kids move this has helped with the need for more worker the only thing is we do not feel"the close" connetion with the kids that we feel we could have if there were more one on one with the kids.

I have also worked with the rotation plan. We had two or three workers who went with each group from one activity to the next. They were the ones who worked at developing a close relationship with the students. Since they were with the children from opening ceremony to closing prayer, they were able to observe needs and concerns and talk/pray with that child.
On the problem of not having enough workers, I think that has always been the case although I do not understand why. Ministering to children is so rewarding. If I can turn just one child away from an eternity in hell, it is all worthwhile.

I wish I could help more with suggestions on how to get volunteers, all I can say about that is pray, and ask people one on one, sometimes people you least expect will say yes if they are asked personally (and they find out that God can use them in ways that are unbelievable). The other thing I can say when it comes to finding workers is to get them all a copy of George Barna's book Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions. Anybody who reads that book will see the need and desire to volunteer in Children's ministry.

Please remember our Church in prayer. I also had a hard time last year getting help to. beside of being the pastor wife, they put me the director of VBS, it is hard work, but I love it. Last year was are first time going all week.But it was worth it. We had 9 youth to get save. Now I back as the director again,and just like last year no one want to be the teacher. Lets pray God will open there eyes and heart that we are all supose to be worker in church. Let pray for are children, there is so many out there that just get to come only doing VBS. It is a blessing to see the little one learn about God. And God bless everyones who help in VBS, It is a true BLESSING!!!

This year our church (due to some new insurance regulations) are unable to utilize our youth as VBS workers. Being a first time director, I'm faced with tryin to find enough help and they must be over 18 years old. We use a rotation schudule to minimize the number of teachers required. I'm looking at 400 children attending VBS. I surely don't want to turn anyone away the morning of VBS becuase I can't get enough help. Please pray for our VBS!!
