Tenfeet,
What other children do you have? What are their ages?

I also have a almost 8 year old boy and a 4 year old girl. But, it is not just her siblings that she is selfish with it is her friends and me and my husband. I have pointed it out to her and punished her for it but, it just goes away for few hours until she forgets about it. She was the first grandchild on both sides of the family and me and my husband and all four grandparents used to give her everything she wanted. (the grandparents still do) She is a very precious child except for this.

Hi Tenfeet, I was very concerned with my children being spoiled, as there Grandmother would have presents for them every time we went to her house (which used to be once, usually twice a week). Since you are home educating have you thought about doing a unit study or even just a day of talking, researching, etc. on children in other parts of the world. If you live in a city you might even be able to visit a local homeless shelter, this is a great opportunity to clean out some closets of older, non-played with toys and have her bring them to the other less fortunate children. Perhaps you could adopt a child (do a geography study at the same time) and every day pray for the children as she realizes about others pray specific scriptural prayers for her heart to grow in compassion and serving others.

Ann Marie,

Thank you so much for that beautiful advice. I have never thought of those choices. I can't wait to do them ALL. Usually all I do it "talk" to her about it, or fuss, really. It just isn't working. Thank you SO much!

Hi tenfeet,

Can you get your 10 year old to help teach the 4 year old? Make her feel like you really need her help.

Also, do you have a convalescent center nearby? Maybe she can volunteer there to bring some joy to the patients.

Blessings,
Christine

Hi tenfeet,
Something I forgot until this week, when my kids reminded me - it is "Operation Christmas Child" by Samaritan's Purse. Samaritan's Purse is an organization run by Franklin Graham (son of Billy Graham) You can find out complete information at www.Samaritanspurse.org
What you do is put together items for a child in another country (geography lesson) in a shoebox. This is that child's entire Christmas gift and for many the only things they receive for the entire year until Samaritian's Purse comes back. They usually have collections at different churches (go to the website for your area). We usually put them together (a summer project) because it gets so hectic during the holiday season. My girls look forward to doing it every year. Each one of them makes a box for a girl the same age they are. Sometimes you get letters back. It's very neat.
