Got any cool ideas for your garden this year? My 17 year old has promised to handle the project this time. Yay! All I have to do is get the lawn thatched and order some dirt. Let's see - what shall we plant?
Hmmmmmmmm......

hmmm...I didn't know you had to order dirt for a garden. Yeah I gotta brown thumb! Wink

I'd love to start a garden today but I'm hearing rain for the weekend. By the time I clear out all the leaves, etc. it'll be tomorrow in a downpour.

I'm planning on planting: marigolds (to keep the small animals away), corn, okra (Rabbit's idea), tomatoes, morning glories and sunflowers.
We got a lot of cardinals in my area and I'd like to keep it that way with the sunflowers! Big Grin

I'm not much of a gardener, and we don't have space for a real garden, but we do have 5 earth boxes that we are planting in. They're basically container gardens, each about 1x2 feet. We each have one box to do what we want. I planted a row of cucumbers, a row of carrots, and a row of radishes. My hubby planted some peppers and a few different types of flowers (not sure what). The girls haven't planted theirs yet. Mine has started to grow, at least the cucumbers and radishes. We just did them a week ago, though. I'm hoping to get the girls to plant theirs this week.

Well, I don't know if you've planted yet, but my hubby LOVES to garden and has pretty much everything in. We have several kinds of tomatos, several kinds of peppers, onions, green and wax beans, zuchinni and yellow squash, cucumbers, and watermelon. We also grow carrots, but not because we eat them (so far, every year they have come out bitter and yucky) but we get tons of caterpillars (swallowtail) on them, and put some in an aquairium to watch and give some away)

This year we also added sunflowers and herbs (parsley, basil, cilantro, rosemary and dill)

We really enjoy our garden and love to can. We make lots of salsa, pizza sauce, sweet pickles, relish, etc. They make great Christmas presents, people love homemade stuff!

Oh, and I forgot we also planted 3 kinds of lettuce and spinach as well, and have already been enjoying fresh salads every day for lunch!

Take care and God bless,
Heidi

Someone suggested to us about doing a pizza garden: oregano, tomatoes, whatever you can grow to put on a pizza. (hey I'm allergic to dairy so I like this! I can't grow a cow! rofl) You can try gardening.org - I think that's where they have info on that.
