I am considering beginning homeschooling, either in the Spring or next fall. I have read about the requirements for Alabama, and it says that you either have to be with a church school or a certified teacher. Does anyone else homeschool in Alabama? What are you doing?
Thanks! |

Sorry, I don't know anything about Alabama requirements. I just wanted to say 'welcome' to the homeschool forum.

Hi JJJ,
Here's a link to HSLDA's analysis of AL law. If you poke around on their site, maybe you can find a church school you can affiliate with. Blessings, Christine |

Thanks Christine and Lori. I have checked out that website and another one which lists the church schools in my area. Most charge a fee. Is this similar to your state?

When we lived in Florida, one of the legal options for homeschooling was to register with a "600 school" (named for the statute number), which is what we did. We paid a yearly fee for each student, and they kept our records for us, issued transcripts and diplomas at graduation, etc. I guess that may be similar to what Alabama does with church schools. I think some of the 600 schools may have charged a monthly tuition, but ours just charged a yearly fee. In Texas now we don't have to register with anyone so there are no fees unless we choose to join a co-op or something like that.
