Okay, this could be interesting. I'll have 3 students this year (for the first time in a long time! Smile)

10th Grader:
Bread of Life Bible, Old Testament Survey
Total Language Plus
Grammar & Essay Class at co-op
Video Text Algebra II
Apologia Biology
Trail Guides to World Geography
Latin 1 at co-op
Rosetta Stone Spanish 1
She's also taking an SAT Verbal Prep class at co-op, ringing in 3 handbell choirs, and doing sign language and art with a small group

8th Grader:
Trailblazer Curriculum Guides & books (that will cover Bible, history, geography, some science and some writing)
Grammar & Essay class at co-op (uses Easy Grammar Plus for the grammar part)
Teaching Company's Basic Math (counts as pre-algebra)
Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum Life Science
Sign Language & Art with a group
She also takes dance and karate classes

7th Grader:
Bible Quest, book of Genesis
Horizons 6 Math
Write Your Roots
Progeny Press literature guides (at least one, maybe more)
Apologia General Science
American Adventure history (historical fiction)
Trail Guide to US Geography
Sign Language & Art with a group
She also takes dance and karate classes

I think that's everything. I don't think we'll have any trouble staying busy this year!

Lori,
Nope, those kids won't be bored! You're ambitious, but it sounds exciting.
Anybody else want to share?

I'm uing FIAR and Time4Learning for my 2 sons. Trying to figure out if that will be enough. Both of my boys are also doing soccer and martial arts and considering music lessons. I think that will keep them busy.

Christine,
Time4Learning helps with remedial work when kids are just learning letters and numbers. It is online and doesn't allow the kids to go anywhere unsafe. Both of my boys have been enjoying their time on there. I think it may go up to later elementary ages but not positive.

Hi! I'm new to this area, but am excited to talk with other Christian homeschoolers. Here's our plan:

7yo dd - Sonlight core K (world cultures), Sonlight Language Arts level 2, Horizons math 2, A Reason for Spelling and A Reason for Handwriting levels C, science thrown in as we go

5yo ds - Sonlight core K (world cultures), Sonlight Language Arts level K, Horizons math K, Handwriting without tears, science thrown in as we go

10month old ds - spit up everywhere, climb the stair rails and scare mommy, scream while mommy reads to brother and sister...

Can't wait to get to know all of you better!

Okay, I hope this makes sense. We use what I've been able to gather over the years. It's a real hodge-podge of materials.

14s:
*Abeka math
*Bob Jones Geography
*Bob Jones Physical Science
*Literature books from my mother's high school days
*Norton Anthology of English Lit from my college days
*a computer typing program
*World History - old Bob Jones
*Bible - memorization, vocabulary and spelling, truth & justice
*a health and nutrition that my mom is developing for multiple ages

12d:
A friend GAVE me an entire Bob Jones curriculum for daughter, complete with workbooks and teacher books! R is so excited to have books with crisp, new pages and no marks!
ASCI Spelling
Bible for handwriting, memorization, vocabulary, truth & justice

10d:
Math from my oldgrade school
Bob Jones science
Abeka Language
ASCI spelling
Bob Jones Reader
Bible

8s:
mostly Bob Jones
turbo Reader from Eagle Forum
Bible

5d:
My old 1st grade reader
lots of coloring & cutting
a "complete curriculum" from Sam's Club
Bible

The older ones have to write a one page story once a week and I'm teaching 14s how to take notes when reading a text book.

I had to laugh when I read this! I've spent
tons of money thru the years...

Here's what my 12d says:
*don't allow the children to write in their workbooks so we can save them for the next child.
*If it breaks, fix it with duct tape
*buy only what's needed. Are math manipulatives really necessary or will cheerios work just as well?
*Buy second-hand

Here's some more:
*Accept gifts. They could be answered prayer from God
*Reuse old textbooks from your highschool days, they were good enough for you!
*Print out free math sheets and color pages from online sources
*pick up some used mathbooks from the local ps. I don't reccommend using ps history or science books published after 1970, even though that's what I grew up with.
*Make due with what you have

I'll think of more later

We have a large dry erase board on the wall by the dining table that we use for our daily To Do, Prayer list, practice math, spelling, anything practice thing that I don't need to keep a copy. They like writing in different colors and it's big enough to hold a lot. 6x4 from a local school for free.

Hello Tina,

I can tell you that God has been my best reource and curriculum advisor. He has always led me to a person or curriculum or fair to help me find what is best for my daughter.

I have never heard of Zion Academy. What grade is your daughter in? I began homeschooling my daughter in 7th grade - after many months in prayer, God led us down the path and it has been such a blessing for us. Depending on her age, why she is having problems in public school [ie: learning, boredom, problems concentrating, social] before you enroll her in an academy - you need to know if it meets her needs. If she is in middle school - you might want to consider a Coop [where they learn with other homeschoolers] being by herself might with video could be an issue. Depending on her age going from spoonfeeding in public school to on-her-own at home is another issue to consider. You know her needs best and with prayer God will lead you. I would be happy to answer any questions you have.
In HIS service,
Deneen
