We have a 17 y.o. young man who is planning to come live with us. He is from the Bronx at this time and has been held back for the 2nd time in grade 10. He is interested in being homeschooled. i have no idea where to begin to determine where he even needs to start. I'm sure that the schooling he has had up to this point needs reinforced of even retaught to some degree. Any ideas?

Dear Jami,
I congratulate you for taking such a courageous step. We have done foster care too.
The first thing you need to do is to check with your agency about homeschooling. Some states allow it for foster kids, some require you to get permission.
Next, I'd have him tested to see where is he academically.
Any other ideas, ladies?
Welcome!
Christine
