What do your hubbies do to help in the homeschool? Chores? Teaching? Tending babies?

Hi Christine,

My dh works from home in a room right next to where we do most of our work.

Every now and again he will be called upon to help with Math as I am not a great mathmetician.

But as he is working I do not ask more than that. He does normal maintenance jobs around the house when they really need to be done :-)) but is not a handy man.

He did not enjoy the baby stage but was very supportive of me. He does no chores and I do not expect it.

What he does do is give me his permanent strength and dependibility when it comes to homeschooling. He is my "strong man" and I am happy with it that way.

I know that others will say this is very "stepford wife-ish" but he is our bread winner and dad, not a surrogate mom!

What he also enjoys is taking the older children for a long bike ride in the mountain on a Sunday which is their PE :-) I take them a second time in the week.

Blessings
Wendy

My answer is similar to Wendy's, only my hubby does not work from home. He used to work very long hours, 10-12 hrs a day, so he wasn't really home that much. Since we moved he is home more. He leaves in the morning before the girls get up, but is home by 4 PM which is really nice. When we start school back in the fall, my goal is to have all of school done before he comes home. That way the evenings can be family time. His role in our homeschool is mostly being our financial provider so I can afford to stay home full-time. He also does field trips with us now and then, which makes those much more enjoyable for me. As the kids have gotten older, he's getting better at using "teachable moments" to teach them things. Not school things specifically, but life skills and practical things. He's talked to the girls about budgeting, finances, household maintenance, etc. He did some of that with our son, too, especially during his high school years. He also goes for long walks with our oldest daughter (part of her P.E., I guess) which has been great for both of them. He's also their favorite audience for showing off their projects that they've done. He does not teach any specific subject, but we do call on him now and then to explain something that he knows more about than I do. Lately that's been current events or history-type questions, especially if it has something to do with the military (since he was active duty for 23 years). He does do some chores around the house, mostly the outside chores (yard work, washing cars) and will help with other things occasionally, but I try to not need him to help with much else. I prefer to have most of the chores done before he gets home, so our evenings can be relaxing. I'm very thankful that he provides well for us so I can focus my time on homeschooling and not have to stress over finances. I have several friends who homeschool and also have to work part-time, and it seems like that would add so much stress to our lives. I'm very thankful to not have to do that.

My hubby works very long hours between his day job and our shop. However he is very good at supporting my efforts through encouragement. I haven't homeschooled in a few years and am just starting back homeschooling our daughter who is in Kindergarten this year. I need all the encouragement I can get.

My hubby is a very hard worker and is busy with his home improvement business. I have just started to home school! Today was our first day. My youngest son is 5 and he did very well today. We only do half day so the rest of the day I will get chores and such done so my hubby only has to focus on spending time with us when he gets home from a hard day at work! I am not yet sure how we will do it when we do full days of school, but i am sure the Lord will lead me and if the chores don't get done one day there is always tomorow!! Wink
