I have decided, after much prayer and a leap of faith, to homeschool my 5 year old son. Justin has been through a lot in his life, including brain surgery, and he has had a horrible year at school. He is VERY smart, and is not challenged at school at all.
I don't know how to get started. I know that there are legal doccuments to be filled out, a curriculum to find and purchase...but I don't really know where to begin. I am in the Shreveport, LA area. If anyone out there can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Kristi S. |

You can find the laws for homeschooling in Louisiana on the HSLDA web site http://hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=LA It looks like you don't have to do anything until your child is 7, so that gives you some time to figure out what direction you're going. They also have a list of homeschool organizations for your state http://hslda.org/orgs/default.asp?State=LA It might be good if you contact one or more of those and see if there are any support groups in your area. Since you're starting with kindergarten or 1st grade, it really isn't that hard to do. You don't even have to use a formal "curriculum" if you don't want to. Hopefully this will get you started, and if you have other questions feel free to post. It's been a long time since I've homeschooled one that young, but there are others on here with kids that age so hopefully they'll have some information for you.
