Wow! Yes, we are new homeschool parents who already have three teenage daughters who are going through high school or have completed and now we are starting fresh with a blessing from God. Our little blessing will be four June 30, 2007 and we would like to know what guidance that might be available to give as we have been working on the basic with her this past year. She knows six shapes, the basic color realm, numbers to 15,says or recognizes most of the ABC's, and can recognize and attempt to write her full name. So, the next step, as we understand you do not need to report to the public school system until Kindergarten. We want to continue with her learning.
Thank you! |

Our son decided to homeschool after his first semester of high school. He was always an A & B student and got frustrated because of being sick with bronchitis (he was in marching band and the late night football games did him in) and they threatened to fail him. While at home he participated in our homeschooling day with his jr high level sis and asked to be homeschooled, too.
I tried to find something he was used to, the traditional textbook method and decided on Hewitt Homeschooling Resources. They offered flexibility, allowing for up to one year to finish a course, book substitutions, and at the time they were the cheapest out there. I opted for the evaluation service for 9th grade. http://www.hewitthomeschooling.com "...with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matthew 19:26 Married since '82 Homeschooling since '97 Mom to 23yods, 19yodd, 10yodd Also doorman to 4 cats and a dog : ) |

Hi ladies,
There are lots of options for a pretty quick start mid-year. Two that come to mind are free - amblesideonline and anoldfashionededucation. There's enough stuff at those two sites to keep you busy while you shop around and decide on a book curriculum. If you're looking for easy-to-administer, you could use ACE, ABeka videos or BJU videos. Be sure to give your child time to decompress from school. Take you time and enjoy each other! Yes! We are in the process of preparing for homeschooling our children. I believe that the Lord has put this call on our hearts for our children. Right now our son is in public school and has some really great teachers, but I feel that God wants us to do something different with our lives. Pray for us. Thank You!

Hello!
Our children are 8,5 & 3 years. The eight year old is our "Little Man". Our five year old, girl,is a special needs child. Then there is the youngest, girl, our Grace from God. See we were told that with every pregnancy that there was a one in four chance of delivering a child with the same disease. Our Lord Jesus blessed us with a precious little girl. Praise God! Through the past five years our family has grown spiritually by leaps and bounds. Homeschooling was not something that I dreamed of doing before my children were born, or even soon after. It was during a revival last spring that the Lord called me to step up and do more than just be a stay at home mom. Though at the time I still wasn't quite sure what He wanted me to do, I was sure that it had to do with our children. Now, here we are several months later, and the picture of what he wants for my family just keeps getting clearer! I look forward to the support that you all give. I would ask for your prayers. We still have some family who are not on board with the idea of homeschooling. I pray that their hearts will be opened to the true importance of life. Love in Christ, Kellie |

Hi Everyone,
I have been reading your posts and am very excited that LifeWay has this homeschool community to help support and answer all the questions homeschoolers have. God has brought our family to the decision to homeschool starting in the fall. I am very excited about this opportunity to teach our children. We have four girls ages 10,7,5, and 20 months. The oldest will be starting 6th grade, the next 3rd grade and then the 5yo will start Kindergarten. I am nervous about starting but I know that God will provide all that I need since He called me to do this. Right now I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I am sure I will start having a lot more questions as the time gets closer for us to begin. Thanks! |

We started homeschooling in the fall. I homeschool my oldest child while the other children are in PS.
It's been a crazy year. We began in TX. My husband took a job transfer to IN the beginning of Oct. Between getting the house to sell, showings, the holidays, being a "single" mom while dad worked out of state during the week, etc., life was chaotic. We finally sold our home and moved to IN the end of February. Now, I'm breathing and trying to get my son further along in the books. We've stayed on top with Spelling, Geography, Social Studies, Reading and most of the math. We're adding in English again this week. We want to get into the Bible curriculum again, and then we'll add in Science. He was wanting to go back to public school in the fall since we moved, but now his brother wants to be homeschooled, so he's changed his mind. Their one year apart from each other. We've been using Bob Jones, and he's enjoyed that. I'm thinking of doing the DVD's next year. We're praying about what God wants us to do. We want what's best for our family. Right now, I'm just trying to connect with other Christian homeschoolers. It seems as though there are a lot of inclusive groups and the Christian groups I've found are too far for me to travel. Please pray I find other families with sound Christian principals to fellowship with. Thanks! Terry |

McFlubber,
I will be praying for you. My family hasn't began to homeschool yet, but we are making preparations for the fall. There is very little support in our area so I know what you mean. We have the Lord on our side! I will be praying for you and I would bet the other families will be too. Kellie |

I am a newbie. I have three girls. My first will be 4 in August. I have a 2 year old and a baby girl born in January. I decided to homeschool before I even had my other two girls. I have been doing my research and am scared. I keep thinking: "Can I really do this? Can I really be responsible for teaching my children?" I am going to give it a good effort. I don't think I can do any worse than the public school system. If anyone has any ideas/advice/suggestions I will kindly accept anything thrown out there. I haven't been able to find a support group near me but I do know that there has to be something out there. I will just have to keep searching.

Dear 3 girls,
You can do this! It's not as scary as it sounds. Your kids are young. Take it easy, have lots of fun, read lots of books and love them. You'll be a great homeschool mom! Why not look for a support group? If you go to www.hslda.org they list support groups by state and perhaps you can find one nearby. You can do this! Blessings, Christine |

I have tried that website and couldn't find any support groups close enough. I will keep searching though. I might even start my own support group. I know that there has got to be other families out there that are homeschooling in my area. Thank you for your support and confidence in me.

Hey 3 girls,
The web site of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine has each state listed. Within each state are listed support groups and activities. You might want to look there too. www.thehomeschooolmagazine.com Blessings, Christine |
