My husband & I are going to homeshool our daughter beginning in August for 2nd Grade. I need help. I don't know where to start but I know in light of the events at her school I have to do this (I'm sure some of you have heard about the group of 3rd Graders that plotted to kill their teacher; my daughter goes to school there) What kind of cirriculum does everyone recommend? I'm looking at Abeka Academy. It sounds pretty good but I'm just not sure. Also any other tips would be appreciated. Due to finances, I am going to have to continue working for now. Thanks for the help.

I'm so sorry that you have had to be so close to such a frightening thing as 3rd graders plotting such things. But thank God you have the option of homeschooling.
I'm not a professional homeschooler myself but I did homeschool my son through first and second grades and have just pulled him out of public school here at the end of his sixth grade year. I have homeschooled my daughter this year for Kindergarten as well. I wouldn't suggest spending a lot of money on your first year of homeschooling. I know A Beka has a wonderful reputation but I couldn't afford it so I rather did a hunt and peck form of homeschool. Walmart has some very good 2nd grade workbooks, as does Barnes and Noble. I used those for basic stuff. I also found many free online lesson plans, unit studies, and such for homeschoolers. I incorporated Bible lessons with a childrens Bible. We'd read and then talk about what we read and we prayed together. We have a community center that offers homeschool P.E. And the Parks and Rec here has some wonderful outdoor activities for hands on learning. You have a few months to get it all together so don't fret about it. www.donnayoung.org is a fantastic site for homeschoolers and it's filled with forms, how to's, and just tons of help. It's run by a wonderful Christian woman that I happened to have the good fortune to meet a few years ago. Blessings on your journey!
