Here's an idea that we used this year with great success. We created "personal" space for children and a boundary for participation by making "standing places" for each child in a rotation area. Here's what we did. We cut rock shapes out of construction paper and placed them on the floor facing our focal area. After placing them in place, we cut pieces of clear contact paper (larger than the rock shapes) and applied them directly over the rock shapes onto the floor. This worked beautifully! We maximized involvement and minimized unwanted "touching". Of course you could use other kinds of designs besides rocks, just remember to make sure each design is the same to avoid choice conflict among the children.
