At our regional associational training meeting, the music leader said that a coral arrangment for THE WORD for adult choirs would be available in April. I know it's only the 3rd, but I've checked all over Lifeway's music & VBS and can't find it. Anyone have a clue? I'm trying to find it for our Music Minister.

I still don't understand why Lifeway puts such a slow, long song in with all the VBS music. "The Word" is a beautiful song but grade school children will be bored with it - like every year on day 4. Kids want to come to VBS and jump and be loud and sing fun, active songs and frankly, it is very difficult to teach day 4.

Also, what's with the solo this year?

Sorry, I need to vent this every year.

I'VE BEEN INVOLVED WITH VBS FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND EVERY VBS WE'VE DONE HAS ALWAYS HAD ONE SLOW SONG. (NOT JUST LIFEWAY) I THINK THEY DO IT BECAUSE IT HELPS THE KIDS QUIET DOWN AND SLOW DOWN A BIT! AND FROM MY VIEWPOINT, I DON'T THINK THE KIDS EVER GET BORED - IT'S VBS! TOO MANY FUN THINGS GOING ON. I THINK KIDS NEED TO BE EXPOSED TO THINGS THAT ARE THE OPPOSITE OF WILD AND LOUD SOMETIMES! Smile

Tomara, I've never had the children get bored with the "slow song." In fact, the 5th and 6th graders in my experience usually prefer this song becuase of the sign language they get to learn with it. We always have that age group perform it at parents night and they love it and so do the parents!

Our kids are never bored with the slow songs.
They are SO POWERFUL! I LOVE how Jeff Slaughter writes such powerful & Biblically sound songs. Our kids absolutely LOVED last year's slow song, "ONE". They still sing it in Sunday School. The kids attitudes mirror the teacher's alot of times. Be willing to step outside your box! Some of the songs, when I first hear don't grab me right off, but I give it time & fall in love with them! Great job Jeff Whoo! Whoo!!!

thanks so much for the site. I have sent it too our music director. I hope we can sing it during VBS week, but if not maybe later.

As to those who don't like the slow song because they are slow, there are also those who don't like the other songs because they are fast & wild! I suggest that both group read the words to the songs without hearing the music. Do you realize what an amazing job Jeff is doing? He's writing words that teach real truth, while rhyming!

I know my God is real,
and nothing will change how I feel,
I'll give him my worship, and I always will
because, I know my God is real.

Whoa!!!

I know the Bible is God's word
his written promises to earth
it is a light unto the feet of those
who believe in it's worth.

I don't think anyone can improve on those lines. Read it alone, without the music. You'll love it.

Actually, I believe the slow song that is reffered to here is "The WORD" for day four. I agree, wholeheartedly with bbacle that the words are great.
They are:
"I know the Bible is God's Word
His written promises to earth
it is a lamp unto the feet of those
who believe in its Worth

The Word is perfect Truth
The Word is what I cling to
Unbreakable, unshakeable Word of God
I love the Word of God

Page after page it teaches me
day after day it speaks to me
and leads me in the ways of righteousness"

I think The Word is the best VBS song ever. Our kids did not get bored with it, and our choir sounded absolutely awesome the day before VBS singing it. At the end, choir members held up their Bibles. I had chills.

I'm standing by my original thoughts on the song. We try every year to pump up the day 4 slow song. And every year the kids groan about it. We teach the song and they do it but there's boredom on their faces. We do music for age 2 up through Jr/Sr High. I understand the very young kids not enjoying it because of the difficult sign language, but the older kids don't either. Is my church THAT picky??

I agree that the song this year is great! I'm going to try and get our choir to sing it.

Jeff does a good job writing and composing the songs and I'm not in any way putting him down. But I'd really like to not have "quiet" songs for VBS. The kids come into music excited and (on day 4) leave "blah". And solos just don't cut it. I'm sure there are churches out there that can easily hand out a solo to a child. But, I think most churches would rather let all the kids sing all the songs.

I apologize if I'm being too negative but I need to get my opinion out there. Thanks!

PS. We just finished our trip to Outrigger Island tonight and had FIVE come forward for salvation! Praise God!

Responding to the comments about the song "The Word": What has worked very well with our church is to incorporate this song into Family Night. I'm using this song this year as a specal presented by the VBS teacher faculty. Because they are the teachers of the word, this becomes a very visual representation of their commitment to teach God's Word. Other Bible Schools we used the VBS Worship team to present the slower song as a special for Family Night. Hope this helps...

Hello all. I think 'The Word' is a very beautiful song. Slow, yes, but I think it provides the opportunity for everyone to actually hear and meditate on the words and not the beat. We are going to play this song during our Invitation. After hearing the words to this song someone may actually decide to give their life to Christ.

The awful slow song was the absolute favorite of the kids this year and it was amazing to see them worship while singing it. I plan to use it in the adult worship service.
