I see in the leader guide on page 12 that I am supposed to be able to get updates and review questions on the missionaries, but I can't find them anywhere...does anyone have a clue? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for decorations for the Missions Outlook area?

it u go to the dollor Tree they have wall murals that have the beach on them and they also either have dolphins, Palm trees or flamigos. Lifeway also has a Decortaions Made Easy book I think its about 10 or your Church may already have one. One suggestion was that instead of using chair use the grass rugs or runners. We are going to try to get one big piece to put on the floor. You can make paper macha rocks. The dollor tree also had Hibicus flowers on paper I am going to hang them from the ceilin with fish string. MY husband is going to try to make that free standing fence that is in the book. So far thats all I have!!!

We are currently working on designing the pages for the review activities and receiving the missionary update info from the North American Mission Board and International Mission Board. We will have them all posted soon. I'll try to post an update here when they are online. We appreciate your patience with us!

All of the additional missions activities and four of the five missionary updates are now available on the VBS Web site at this link: http://vbs.lifeway.com/vbs2008/yourvbs/downloads_more.aspx?id=542. Once you get to the link, choose "Missionary Updates" to get an update on each of the ministries of the VBS 2008 featured missionaries or choose "Additional Mission Activities" to get extra review activities for the missions rotation.

One more missionary update will follow soon! Let us know if you find this information helpful!

My missions teacher is asking me to find her a section of wooden fence & semi-transparent cloth the size of paper. Any ideas on where to find or how to make the fence? Has anyone tried using tracing paper instead of the cloth?

We are just finishing our VBS. What I done for the cloths get Muslin, you can get it at hancocks fabrics for about .99 a yard. If you can get the decorations made easy there is a free standing fence directions. Its made with Pvc pipe but I used the smaller pvc pipes. But the middle calls for the orange safety fence but its expencive!!! We used smaller PVC pipes and sprayed them orange but it will probally cost about $30 or so.

Here are things we did, several of which we've done in years past:

  • I snapped a couple of pictures of the kids and emailed them to the missionaries' email addresses in the update. Judy, from Jamaica, emailed us back! The kids were tremendously excited.
  • I used my little digital voice recorder to record the kids saying "Ganbatte!" (an encouragement word in Japanese) so we could send it to Joy in Hawaii.
  • I wrote a little three-sentence encouragement letter to Mark and Barbara in the Philippines, printed it out on 11x17 paper, had the kids sign it in multicolored pens, and dropped it in the mail to them. Again, their mailing address is on the update.
  • Tomorrow, I'm going to make a few video clips of the kids saying encouraging things, edit them together, post them on YouTube, and email the folks in Reunion with the link.

The kids love anything technological, and they love thinking that they've given something real and substantial to the missionaries. And the parents love that it doesn't cost anything.
