Our son, who is our oldest, graduated from our homeschool this year. We had his graduation ceremony & a reception at our church this past Saturday. It was a wonderful occasion for all of us! I'm so glad we decided to do our own ceremony instead of participating in our homeschool group's graduation. Not that there's anything wrong with the group thing, it just worked out so much better for us to do this on our own. It was personal, and special, and something we will never forget.

I was just wondering if any of you have graduated a student from your homeschools, and if so, what you did to celebrate the event. I learned a lot from planning this event, and hope to put that knowledge to good use in a few years when my next child graduates.

Hi Lori,
Do you mean you had a "graduation" during a regular church service? Explain what you mean.

Our local support group does a graduation and it's quite meaningful. The parents present the diploma, the kids speak or play music. Very nice. I expect I'll be involved in organizing one this year.

Hi Christine,
No, it wasn't during a regular church service. We just used the church facilities. We planned our own ceremony for just two graduates (my son and his friend) and were able to do exactly what we wanted to do. Then afterwards we had the reception in the church gym. Our homeschool group does one, too, but we opted not to participate. At first I was disappointed because I felt like my son was missing out (due to circumstances beyond our control) but afterwards I was very glad we did it the way we did. It was very special, for him and for us.

We are members of a very large church in NW Arkansas and we have a "Senior Day" when all Seniors are brought across the stage, presented with a book from the Pastor and a special prayer of blessing is prayed over them and their families. We used this as our ceremony this year.
I printed out annoncements and the grandparents drove up. Afterward, the church sponsered a banquet and had a wonderful speaker. We took pictures and made memories.
