Hi! My name is Godiva, I'm a missionary from Hong Kong and my family are staying in the north part of India now. I have been homeschooling my sons 3 years, actually is not a long period. My elder son is 11 and the other one is 7.
Sometime I feel strange about myself, actually I'm not grow up in a homeschool background, I'm not a teacher and English is also not my first language. But we are using a English curriculum for homschool. There are lots of struggles in my life when I'm facing homeschool.Sometimes feel lonely, actually we don't have any other community are homeschool in my city. When people they heard about homeschool, they felt that " What is this???"....But there is one reason I'm keep on going, just because of the calling from God. thanks !! |

Welcome, Godiva!
Thanks for stopping by. Three years of homeschooling qualifies you as a veteran! Plus, you are working under far more difficult circumstances than most of us. In my area alone, there are TONS of support groups and activities. I really commend you for what you are doing with so little support. But you know that the Lord goes with you constantly and I'm sure that is your lifeline. What curriculum do you use? Is English the first language of your sons? I hope the other ladies on the board jump in to greet you. Blessings, Christine |

Godiva,
Welcome! It's so nice to see some new names here. I look forward to getting to know you better. It sounds like you have a lot of challenges to deal with, but you seem to be handling them well. I know it is hard to homeschool without a lot of support. I've been in situations like that. But as you said, God called you to do it, so you know He will supply all that you need to continue on. I get a lot of support from this forum and others like it, so even if you don't have a local support group, you have one here! Lori in TX Wife to Ricky Homeschool Mom to A.J. Thanks for reply to me! Both of you are so kind to me, I'm so glad that I can share with you. I'm using ACE curriculum now.I have been using this curriculum for 3 yrs; my sons can speak Chinese, English and a little bit Hindi. Most of the time they read English books rather than Chinese book, because they only have kindergarten of Chinese standard.
Actually my sons are lack of friends here, all the children here they are study in local school. When my elder son, Gabin play with the local kids, he is facing different kind of culture shocks. It also leads him hard to build up a deep relationship with other kids. Sometimes I’m quite worry about their future, “shall I keep homeschooling them?” There are always questions in my mind, sometimes I don’t have confidence to teach the kids when they are in high school standard. In these three years I try to give up so many times, but finally I didn’t. Now I realize that I’m just lack of support at the past, and I need to move forward. Learn to be stronger and stand firm about my conviction. I know that God really through homeschool to bless my family. Thank you for your support, it is so important to me and let me know that I’m not alone. Godiva India, UP. |
