I didn't know where to ask this question. Rabbit (my sweet aspie) asked: Why can't we feel the earth moving? (she thought it goes slow - but it doesn't, right?) I told her it's because since we're born here, we're used to it so we don't feel it.
Uh, was that right? Help? For those of you with babies, you will still get some sleepless nights as they get older but for other reasons. Chris Homeschooling mom to 2 wonderful girls with special needs "Jesus is the Rock and He rolled my blues away." Larry Norman 4/8/1947 - 2/24/2008 |

I think you answered her well. I found this if you're interested: http://www.videojug.com/interview/fun-science-planet-ea...-feel-the-earth-spin
Basically, it says we can't feel the earth spinning because we're moving at the same rate the earth is. He compared it to driving down the highway at 65 mph with another car next to you traveling at the same speed. If you look out your car window at that car, it doesn't appear to be moving, because it's moving at the same speed you are. It's kind of the same with the earth, only were moving right along with it so we can't feel it moving at all. And yes, it does move fast! Something like 1,000 mph (depending on where on earth you are, the closer to the equator you are, the faster it moves). Why would one part of the earth move faster than another part? Wouldn't that make it ahead of us? Now I'm confused.
But thanks for answering my question! Chris Homeschooling mom to 2 wonderful girls with special needs "Jesus is the Rock and He rolled my blues away." Larry Norman 4/8/1947 - 2/24/2008 |

I have no idea why! That's just what the guy said, that the closer to the equator you are, the faster the earth moves. I asked both of my "science smart" girls and neither of them could remember (don't you love answers like "I used to know that!"
