In an effort to reach teens in our small rural community our church has partnered with the local FCA to provide a place for teens to gather to watch Monday Night Football since many families here do not have cable.

Our church avgerages about 5 girls for SS, so we really did not expect a huge turnout. Well, God is working! We've had 60-70 teens the last two weeks. This is a work in process. The first week (double header) the kids lost interest in the game but hung around anyway just for the food and fun with frisbees outside.

This week we were a bit more prepared with volleyball nets set up outside in case the football game got boring. We also arranged to have the high school wrestling coach and FCA advisor give his testimony.

I'm wondering if there might be some way we could adapt FUEL to use during halftime. We've never used Fuel. OR does anyone have any suggestions on something else we could use/do to feed these kids spiritually?

Thanks
Sandy

What an awesome opportunity! I would think just showing the fuel video and then having someone briefly describe it would be great. Also, you can have different people share their testimonies as well.
The videos are great though and I think the kids would get into that.
I love that idea of Monday Night Football outreach!

The SPARK segments of FUEL provide a variety of styles (humor, drama, interviews) to help you jump-start conversations re: life issues and felt-needs. SPARKs are consistantly "seeker" friendly- as in avoiding Christian lingo- and primed to set up profound conversations. Sounds like a good match for your innovative outreach.

Thanks for your comments, and suggestions. I've shown the samples to my pastor/husband and he says that they will consider using FUEL. BTW: We had over 70 this week. The kids are planning to invite others at See You at the Pole tomorrow. We are excited about what God is doing. Keep us in your prayers.

Just wanted to update anyone interested...The FUEL videos we received were judged by our leaders to be "too juvenile" for our mostly high school group. I personally think that FUEL 2 would be better, but they were too turned off to even consider it at this time. Frown

This ministry has continued beyond MNFootball season and the kids are still coming. We had over 70 last night. We've had 35 make first time professions of faith in Christ and many more who have renewed their commitments to Christ. We are seeing the kids grow as they share honest, from the heart prayer requests with the group and come to us with questions about scripture they are reading on their own.

It is such a huge thing for these kids who have been raised in Roman Catholic cultures (if any church at all) to experience communicating directly to God and reading God's Word. It has rejuvenated us jaded adults to revel with them as they openly shout and cheer when they hear of answered prayers, and shoulder bump their friend when a memorized verse just spills out in the middle of a conversation.

This is definitely a God thing that is happening here. We, "leaders", feel that we are just along for the ride. We have had anonymous donations of an ice machine and money to purchase a popcorn machine and a hot dog steamer which we will use for occasional movie nights. We recently bought and showed Facing the Giants (we bought the version that gives permission to show to groups)and are now going through the clips and studies that came with the movie. We highly recommend it.

Please continue to keep this ministry in your prayers!

Blessed to Be His,
Sandy
