My husband is using this in our group. He shows the video and stops it periodically for discussions. I think it is great since it is different from week to week.

If you could change Fuel any way you want, what would you want to be different? What could you not live without?

We have been using Fuel for a while now. We absolutely LOVE it. When we meet Sunday morning, we have donuts and fellowship time, play the video, and then break apart into groups by school grade (7th - 12th) to continue the discussion for the week. 10/1 the youth like the video type of lesson better then what we have done in the past.

We have a very small church with only 4-5 active youth. We are looking for something that will grab their attention more the regular Sunday School material, but have a very limited budget and this series is quite costly. Do you think Fuel would be a good investment for a group our size? How long are your sessions for this material?

Whether it's worth it is, of course, an individual decision. One thing to remember is that Fuel is undated and can be used more than once and in more than one way.

The videos have three parts that vary somewhat in length, but the total time is usually about 15 minutes. The teaching suggestions for the follow-up discussion will take about 45 minutes.

I took our youth group to centrifuge 2 years ago and they were pushing Fuel BIGTIME! I talked to the Senior High SS teacher who was looking for something "different". AH....Have I got the thing for you. We are almost done with the Fuel 1.1 and I'm envious of it. I really like it for a variety of reasons...
1. Videos. Like 'em. Some more than others but great over all.

2. Info on CD. (background on passages, etc.)

3. Timeline. GREAT! Though, I think it really lacks visually it's great to show the kids how these "stories" have a place in time.

What I don't like...
1. The hand outs aren't visually as slick as the the videos and packaging. I've started redoing the sheets (including the timeline) to look more visually appealing. (I'm putting that undergrad Graphic Design degree to work!)

2. The "Fill in the blank" pages and the cross word puzzles are...kindergartenish. Kids don't learn from that stuff. Though they have used it for something kids to do while waiting for the class to start.

3. The reading of the scripture...BOOORRRRIIINNNGGGGG!! Nowhere as cool the main speakers on the video.

Overall,it's great. Where it's strong the series is strong. Where it's weak it's really weak. Now remember, I'm still on the first Fuel dvd.

Keep up the good work!

The only thing I haven't liked about FUEL were the students used in the "on the street" section that were not Christians in FUEL 2.2. When you are asking the questions that you want your students to hear answers from I would rather them hear what other Christian youth have to say.
The students in 2.3 are much better.

While we won't be in 2.2 for another month or so, I actually prefer the honest conversation that was present in the 1.x series verses the 'corporate' line present with the music artists.

We just finished Fuel 2.4 a week ago and will be starting Fuel2 this Sunday. So, obviously I'm a fan.

My experience with the street interviews was different, though, than Karen H.’s. The Fanning the Flames that I enjoyed the most were the ones with heretical and worldly viewpoints. It gave our students who don't yet have orthodox beliefs a chance to see that the point of the lesson is a direct response to those beliefs. Most importantly, though, the 15 or 20 seconds that the Fanning the Flame devoted to non-Biblical viewpoints are followed immediately by 8ish minutes of orthodox, Bible-based teaching. I found it helpful to address questions and objections that are raised against Christ, and it doesn’t bother me a bit to let those objections and questions come directly from people who hold them.

The Fanning the Flames with the Christian artists I didn’t like as much. I thought the high school and college student interviews connected better with the students. Having said that, the one guy with the big hair from Olivia the Band was pretty entertaining.

The 2.4 Fanning the Flames were my least favorite. I much preferred having the interviews.

Gearing up for Fuel2, though, I really like the way the two video segments work together. The ongoing Spark storyline is good stuff. The Skating Bohemians were a big hit with our youth group. (Digital Eden… not so much.) I think they’re really going to like the WB-type youth drama. Also, any combustion that includes Voddie Baucham is immediately awesome.

A’ight, that may be more like my five cents.
