i was curious if anyone else was decorating their room like an actual scene as if you are there.I am trying to make my room look as if you are actually on the island looking out into the ocean.Any tips for decorating like this?

I'm not, but suggestion: You could maybe do a hut set-up in the room, but add very large made-from-paper windows looking out over the ocean, on all walls. Make the window @ 4ftx4ft with dark blue on the bottom half, light blue on the top; paint clouds, airplanes, etc. in sky; boats, other islands, volcanoes, on horizon; palm trees in foreground (with 3D leaves); they sell straight-edged bulletin board border that would give the effect of a window frame (but bamboo would look great). You could make just portions of 3D palms as if the tree was just to the right or left of the window... and of course one window should overlook some foilage or that's one small island.

I am making my room into two parts. I have a large room, its our youth room. On one side I am making it under the ocean. I will have blow up fish, sharks, whales, etc. hanging from the ceiling. I am even going to try and make a boat bottom out of brown paper and put it on the ceiling and hang foil fish hooks from it making it look like someone is fishing. I made corral out of cardboard, stuffed gray trash bags for the rock. I made a boat that looks like it has a hole in it and sunk. On the other side I am making it look like the island, it's our craft side. I made a tiki hut to display, I will hang decorations from it, lanterns etc. Also surfboards, palm trees, I have grass skirts for the tables. I found a sun to hang up. I will take a bamboo beach mats and put some of our puppets on them, make it look like they are sunbathing. Put another beach mat on the wall with the Bible verses on it. I also have tiki torches I will set up, and sand pails. There are so many things I just can't remember them all. Our VBS starts on Monday June 9th. I hope this helps. Good Luck and God Bless

Many years ago when we had an ocean theme VBS we put blue plastic tablecothes on the ceiling and it really seemed that we were at the bottom of the ocean

Sonl and Megs: I am glad that you posted something because I was thinking that there were some real characters on this site that is normally nice, sweet, kind and encouraging!!

We are doing this too. We use our VBS programs year round for Sunday School and are starting Outrigger up as our Fall/Winter session this year. We have a room in our church that originally was our Puppet Theater and it has been adopted as our Mission Theater since way back to Ramblin Road Trip. Instead of using the Missons Lookout scene we are going to make an undersea scene for OI and show the mission movies in there. My husband was trying to think of a way to make it look like a boat on the surface too, your idea will work perfectly! We also have some bullentin board scene pieces of scuba divers and are going to hang them around as well. We are going to cover the entire room (including ceiling) in various shades of blue paper to make the water. We are going to make the outside entrance into the room look like a Scuba Diving School or pier or something similiar.. like you jump in the water (go thru the door) and you are in this underwater paradise!
