Since we are going to be at a new church site this year (if it ever stops raining Smile), we will be doing most of our VBS outside. We will have beach huts, set up for each of our bible study groups. My co-director and I thought it would be cute to have beach towels for all of the kids to use during the bible study times and for decorations. Does anyone have a lead on cheap beach towels?

Beach towels can be very pricey, but try these websites - solid color towels are cheaper than the patterned type.

www.towelsandlinen.com

Some other ideas - perhaps have the kids sit on
those woven straw beach mats that roll up. They may be less expensive. Use the beach towels for decorations so you don't need as many. Try this website: www.partycelebration.com. They have mats at wholesale prices. They also have other luau decorations.
Purchase large brightly colored bath towels on sale or at thrift stores/garage sales (just need to launder them).
Hope these ideas help.

If you decide to go with the straw mats (which is a good idea!), I've seen those at the "dollar stores". HTHs!

you could have members lend them to you, and write their names on them the sunday after vbs, have them somewhere for people to claim them. then you won't have a bunch of towels to figure out what to to with!

Do you live near a Southern Baptist campground? I work at one (GO ACADIAN BAPTIST CENTER) and kids are always leaving beach towels behind and NEVER coming back to get them. Maybe they can pass some to you from the "Lost and Found" box--or should I say "Lost and Never Recovered" Box.

I found straw mats at Big Lots for $1.00 each. They are about 6 ft long so a couple kids can sit on one mat. Wink

We used beach towels during our csnack time last year and had each child bring one from home. For those that forgot and just didn't bring any in we brought in extra towels and beach blankets. Kids can even share their towel with a friend. at the end of each day we gathered them up and put them in a box - used them the next day!

We have a fairly small church (less than 200) and we've just asked for people to bring and let us borrow their beach towels. We have a few dozen already. Another idea was on the first night, have the kids bring their own beach towel each night. That was something someone else mentioned. HTH!
