Anyone have any new ideas for making vines? We are not able to get the brown roll paper towels here anymore. Everyone has gone to the soft white perforated ones. We tried spray painting these and twisting but they dont work. I am at a loss.
Have a blessed day! Barb

Hi Barb!

We have always made our vines out of just regular brown paper bought at the Teacher Supply by the foot. (bulletin board paper).

This comes in a 4 foot wide piece as long as you want it, or you can buy a roll. We would just cut it into 1 foot wide pieces as long as we want them and hook them to the trusty ole cordless drill and twist away! We made mountains of vines like this for Jungle Jaunt.

HTH! Wink

Hi Barb.

When you use the cordless drill to twist them they are twisted soooooo tight that you would really have to sit and work at it to get them to unwind. We have all of our vines stored from Jungle Jaunt and they look exactly the same as when we made them a year ago.

You just take the end of the strip of paper, remember like at least a foot wide by say 20 feet long, you either tape it to the end of the drill where the bit would insert, or twist the end and insert into the drill bit hole and then someone else holds the paper about a foot from the drill as it turns. You just keep giving it guidance as it forms. You will have a vine that looks remarkably realistic. We went to the $$ Store and got greenery and pulled all the leaves off and then stapled them to our vines in random places. We made over 200 feet of vine and stretched it across the entire ceiling of our fellowship hall. This way of making it super easy and FAST, FAST, FAST ~ as we did all our vine in less than an hour! HTH!

We have used brown and 2 colors of green crepe paper streamers, staple the end of all three together and then unroll the paper. Then hand twist or use a electric mixer or drill to help do the twisting.
