Would anyone have ideas for a skit to promote our upcoming women's retreat. It's primarily for the women of our church and whoever they invite. There will be a worship leader/speaker on intimacy with God and time for meditation and prayer. There is also time set aside for use of the gym, hayrack ride, paddle boats (weather permitting), etc.
Thanks for any ideas, anyone has to offer.

Cats, what is going to be the theme of the retreat? Do you want the skit funny or serious?

Cats~

My pastor's wife does drama ministry at our church. She has a membership at a website where she downloads all sorts of ministry related dramas.

We recently did a busker's night (I will explain later) but at any rate we had to come up with a skit for the opening act and I went to her house and sat down. We had in mind what we were trying to convey and I asked her how she would respond (in her character) if I did or said a certain thing. We came up with a rough idea of what we wanted and I wrote the skit. Our skit was about two homeless people trying to horn in on a fundraising show called Busker's night. It's comic and goofy and includes Cole Porter's song "Friendship" a little altered. It was great fun!

Anyway, I don't know if I can help but you can check my profile and email me if you think you might like some help writing your own.

Best,
Michelle

Well, from the scripture in Ps. that says "one thing I seek, to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life & gaze upon his beauty" and the one about Mary & Martha & Mary has chosen the one thing that will remain, and Paul where he presses on to know Christ better (there's something about one thing in there) - Anyway, I used those & challenged them to become a "1 Thing Woman". We talked about having names of God scripture references available for them to meditate on, if they wanted suggestions. But other than that - there really isn't a theme. The speaker likes to wait and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit (which is why we hesitated to have a real specific "theme"). The purpose is for the believer to deepen their walk with God. Does that help any, or just add confusion?
Oh, and a funny skit is always the most memorable and I'm trying to be sure the younger ones don't get the idea we're going to lock them in solitary or something - but on the other hand, how can you come across funny when quite honestly we aren't retreating to learn Jewish dances or something. It's to spend time with God. - I need them to know this is something the young will enjoy, it's not just for old ladies with nothing better to do. But if they haven't ever experienced "complete joy in the Lord's presence" it's hard to convey what it's about.
I hope this makes some sense.

Hey Cats,
My friend and I have been doing comedic skits for WM and other church events since 1988 and actually get paid...but that is not the point. The point is I might be able to help you. I have rewritten many hymns and other church music. Even popular songs. I have some things we have done to promote Women's retreats...it is all in good fun. I would be happy to share any of this with you. We love doing this and we get very busy with banquets and Christmas events at this time of year. So, if you all need some funny ideas for that I would be happy to share what we have done. You can ask Kelly aka celebrate designs, we are funny. We go by the names of Mildred and Gertrude. You can email me at church nancy.monarch@hfbc.org.

I remember a cute skit where several women wandered up to the front of the sanctuary talking about "life." As they talked about their need for relationships, growing in God's Word etc. there was a woman with a sign (like a picket sign) walking behind them up on the platform. On this sign was the name of the women's retreat and the dates. As the ladies talked, the woman carrying the sign kept making faces at them. The women act like they don't see her. Finally one of them says something about the upcoming women's retreat. It was cute and funny... but I guess you just had to be there. Wink

I have not had a chance to call you, but got your email. Nothing has gone as planned this weekend, so I have not been home much. So, email me good times to call this week. I am so sorry. We had two new Sunday School classes begin this week, came back from vacation needing to help train two people, then do what I normally do, and one of my good friends was in the hospital this weekend. Sooo....overwhelmed is a good word right now. All good though.
